Just saw the Montvallo game and I was happy about with the tempo and the way the offense was ran. Lot of shots put up and for the most part open shots. We should look a lot better when Tarrant, Retin, and Kessens get back. Randolph looks so much more aggressive. He slashes and gets to the hole soo easily. Hale looks good needs to rebound better though. Taylor looked ok besides foul trouble. Cooper is Cooper will get open shots and miss majority of them. Slaughter surprisingly looked great gave a lot of energy on both ends and hit a couple open shots. The freshman looked great. Really confused as to why we offered Garret. I think we should've offered a big body. We have wings. Especially a wing who cant shoot. Really happy we got Norris. Kid just knows how to play. Justin Colemon is going to be great for us as well.

Painfully I am a Bball fan and I will watch BAMA play regardless of the record.

IIRC we've looked great on offense (more up-tempo) in exhibition games in past years only to revert back to pass-around-the-perimeter-til-3-seconds-on-shot-clock once we started playing teams with a pulse.

I just can't be that optimistic regardless of new players because I think the issue is coaching.

Despite our record, last year we were actually a little more fluid offensively than in years past. So with the addition of more shooters and a new assistant known for his offense, I'm thinking it'll get much better this year.

I loved Releford, but I'm super excited about Coleman. Releford was more of a short SG with handles where Coleman is more of a true PG. I think that passing was one of our biggest weaknesses in years past and I look for that to start improving this year.

Well according to the announcers. Witherspoon has been working on the offense. Might be the first game ive seen in a long time where we didn't wait for the end of the shot clock to get a shot up. look like the guys have the green light to shoot whenever.

I posted these thoughts on another board responding to people's questions. I guess they apply here though they may seem out of context:

quote:

I was actually surprised how well the freshmen moved without the ball. Don't get me wrong, there were little spurts where things became stagnant, but for the most part things were fluid and we were moving fast, especially when Coleman was in the game. As for our strategy offensively, we definitely shot the ball quicker. Our freshmen were not gun shy. I'm not sure if we played fast offensively because of the 30 second shot clock or if that's what we actually want to do though. As far as complete offensive strategy, we still continued to set high screens at the top of the key and then roll of those. I would imagine when Kessens comes into the lineup, he will flash more at the free throw line and we can leave Jimmie at the low block where he belongs and can be effective.

quote:

On the injured players, they all dressed out and all went through pre-game the same as the other players running the drills and what not. From where I was sitting, they all looked physically like they could have played had this been a real game. If they don't play Friday or Monday, I think it's just precautionary to guarantee they'll be fine against Southern Miss and then Iowa State.

This was in response to someone asking about why Taylor only had 4 points
quote:

We took a lot of 3s and didn't feed him as often as he could have been fed. He also missed 4 free throws which was disappointing, though the ball didn't seem to be spinning sideways quite as bad as last year. It didn't help that when he did get the ball on the low block, he was immediately double/triple teamed. We will need either Kessens or Hale to also have a low post presence to free Taylor up more. He had a sky hook across the lane that rimmed out, but it was an impressive move.

I wish we would have found another post as well, but I do think Garrett can eventually help. He roamed the perimeter offensively and I don't think that's where he needs to be. He should be attacking the rim, not attempting to be a 3 point shooter. His goal this year should be to take full advantage of his athleticism and get put backs.

minor injuries before the season starts. This does not bode well for them being healthy for the entire season does it?

I don't think any of these injuries are serious.

Tarrant on twitter seems pretty adamant that he will be playing Friday:

being the devils advocate and we see this in FB, but nagging pre season injuries usually lead to nagging season injuries and how many times have we seen this happen in a season where key players have to sit out multiple games. So my point is that this does not bode well going into the season with some key players already having nagging injuries even if they are minor.

We looked like a much improved team, but I'm not ready to get hyped yet. For the past couple of years we would show offensive competency in the first few games then revert to Grant ball.

After around 10 regular season games, if we're playing well, I'll be hyped.

the tuscaloosanewsdotcom article has a write up on the game and I did not get a good and warm fuzzy feeling about the game. Said it was real close to the last

I wouldn't take anything from it being close. They looked great imo considering the fact that 3 players were out and im thinking 2 will be starters.

I agree completely. He came in and shot 3 straight 3s and he doesn't look comfortable shooting them. Cant believe he thinks he is better than Tony Mitchell.
