Have we ever had 5 teams this good at once? As much as I hate to admit it, you gotta put Ole Miss in there given their two close loses to west rivals. They are as good as anyone in the nation with 2 loses. This is insane. To be at this stage towards the end of the season and nobody has a clear advantage to win crap.
Ole Miss can play spoiler and then you have Auburn, Alabama and Lsu all with only one loss and Msu could lose to both Bama and Ole Miss on the road. And even if Msu wins one of those, we go to tie breaker. That is crazy.

I thought the West was pretty strong overall in 09' but this year it's unreal.

As good as all these teams are....none of them stack up to the Big 3 in 2011 (Alabama, Arkansas, LSU)
It is crazy how all these teams got so goddamn good ATS.

I totally disagree. Yeah 2011 had those teams but keep in mind they were just better than the rest of the west. This year you have 5 teams, not 3, but 5. All of which can beat anyone else in the west on any given day that is legit.

Allow me to state my case Bama fan. Everyone knew coming into the season that the powers that be, IE Alabama, Auburn and Lsu were loaded with talent. Then there was talk about Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss might be in the mix along with Msu having a QB in Prescott with a potential nasty defense and a corp of WR's etc. All of that was talk but very real.
Since then, an Arkansas team who I believe is the best 4-5 team in the nation fell to Alabama 14-13. Meanwhile Msu was winning but being overlooked. Then Ole Miss did something they rarely do, beat Alabama and suddenly things were shaking up to prove this might be a fight 'till the end. Msu dominated Lsu and A&M but the voices said "we believe it if they can knock off a veteran Auburn team." Well, it happened. Msu won that game. Since then nobody can be sure who they beat. The west is just that good. You don't know if you will beat Auburn or Lsu and Msu doesn't know if they beat you or Ole Miss. And nobody left that has to play Arkansas , if they are honest, knows that is a win.

Times are changing big guy. Stadium expansion at Msu along with a current top 13 recruiting class and a good coach. Ole Miss has a solid coach and will also be doing a new stadium expansion. Say what you want but facts are facts at the present.
Let me remind you that for years and years our athletic dept was crap. There was presure among the money donors that we invest in facilities, a coach and a commitment to football. Thus new facilities, stadium expansion and the most money ever paid to a head coach. They were sick of hiring no named coaches. After Mullen started beating Ole Miss, they went all in. They refused to accept the fact Mullen was stealing the show in MS. So now they are all in as well.
Competition does that.
One thing you cannot deny, the Lsu blowouts over Msu are no longer. We've been slowly making a game out of it lately. Of course you will turn to last year but even then, both Msu and Lsu traded leads for 3 quarters right? We had zero depth and flat worn out 4th quarter. Our answer? This year playing a lot of 2nd string guys to stay fresh 4th quarter.

quote:Honestly, this. In 2011 the SEC West had the best 3 teams in the entire nation at the same time. Yeah the West is deep this year, but in terms of quality, those 3 teams were better than anything this year. I think college football as a whole is pretty down this year.

Every year the Sec went on a run winning all those national championships except two was because the Sec was down lol

Last time I checked the west has done just fine vs non conf opponents. Lsu beat Wisconsin, Auburn beat K-State, Bama beat West Virginia, not sure who Arkansas beat but I don't think you lost one did you?

We've kicked the shite out of everyone we've played. Granted that isn't saying much outside of NIU.
ETA: But I really don't see the logic in comparing the strength of past SEC teams with OOC records. Those 3 in 2011 only lost to each other.

Ok I just looked it up. In 2011 you beat a 2-10 ole miss team 29-24 and escaped Vandy 31-28 and yes beat a 5 win Tennessee team. I just don't think you can compare today with what is going on this year. Granted, I am speaking about the west.

quote:Our only losses were to the two teams in the National Title game and we kicked the shite out of Kansas State in our bowl, who was top 10. Scores are pointless. The facts explain themselves.

The fact is, in 2011 Alabama was the best team in the nation bar none. Nothing else matters about how you guys claim 2011 was the the best . Alabama was head and shoulders better than anyone period. No contest

It is pipe dream to believe your coach will stay at Moo State- There are so many bigger programs that have deep pockets who need a good coach
Enjoy your year

I smell fear. Top recruiting class coming in. The brains behind Urban Meyer and a QB coach who has done it with 4 QB's. Of course you are wishing he is gone, you probably want Freeze gone too. It's natural to want less competition. You guys been saying this shite from the day he stepped on campus 6 years ago. New contract, he's staying. And he's starting to haul in recruits, too. Don't be mad.
Them hogs are about to make noise too. Killing you to think too many good west teams means no more perfect seasons. Yeah I know what's rolling around in your head. Well get used to it buddy boy. The west is brutal now.
