Harrington (had Bama No. 7, Auburn No. 3): “Auburn won in Oxford, Alabama lost in Oxford. Auburn won in Manhattan, Alabama beat West Virginia on a neutral site. I'm tired of people saying they just ‘know’ Alabama is the best team in the SEC. That feeling is based on what Nick Saban and Alabama have done in the past and the belief he will have them prepared to win down the stretch. The reality is there is no logical argument that could put this year’s Alabama team, at this moment, ahead of Auburn. This week’s game will give Alabama a chance to beat a good LSU team -- which is something Auburn has already done.”

I cant stand that logic "My team beat the team you lost to, so that means that my team would beat your team"

well until teams play, common opponent is probably the best measure to compare the two. Is it faulty, sure.

Well, this isn't quite the same LSU team from September.

Actually that was a bad LSU team that Auburn beat early in the season.

Auburn got lucky again by playing LSU early.

Eh, this was a bigger deal earlier this year when Alabama was ahead of Auburn despite Auburn playing for the title and beating Alabama.

Lately, Auburn has been put ahead of Alabama. But his point is valid, Saban and Alabama get the benefit of the doubt against Auburn, even when it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Wasn't Alabama favored by like 8 over Auburn as recently as last week? I get them being the favorite at home, but that didn't make a lot of sense to me.

Not really. We lost to state. That game was played. That's the difference. you see that, right?

Sounds about right. Most people agree with that assessment that Auburn should be ranked higher than Alabama.

None of it really matters at this point. SEC pecking order and representative in the playoffs will be decided head to head over the next few weeks.
