"The helmet used by Auburn kick returner Chris Davis in last year's Iron Bowl sold for $47,190 early Sunday morning.
The helmet Chris Davis wore in last year's Iron Bowl sold for over $47,000.
The helmet, which is also signed by Davis, was part of an auction conducted by New Jersey-based Goldin Auctions.
"We knew when we received this item on consignment it was something special and would be treasured by Auburn fans, alumni and college football collectors," said Goldin Auctions founder Ken Goldin, who confirmed that an Auburn alum was the winner. "This helmet from one of the most historic and notable plays in college football goes down as one of the highest priced pieces of collegiate sports memorabilia ever sold, and certainly the most valuable that has been auctioned from a player or event that occurred within the past 20 years."

That's probably not a bad price for it.

I'm not a big memorabilia guy at all, but some people go crazy for this kind of stuff.
I don't get it either

It's going to be a pretty awesome piece of football memorabilia.
I mean, yeah, I wouldn't buy it, but it should definitely be in the CFB HOF eventually, once we've seen that play repeatedly for a decade or two

It's not too bad.. the last guy spent $200k on Cam Newton and he doesn't even have something he can show his friends.

The OP provided a link. No links to this insinuation.

How much of that 47k did Chris Davis get?

Someone makes a shite ton of money off that and Chris Davis cant see any of it. This is why I have no problem with the players being paid. Especially for autographs.

Of course I wouldn't expect an Arky fan to understand this, but when you win a championship they do give you a few little trinkets.

It was put up by a relative, so he might have given it to him as a gift.

It's one thing when a wealthy alum buys a piece of memorabilia. When a guy on disability living in his car robs a bank to buy a toe nail that probably wasn't the Bear's, that's another thing entirely.
