Bill Shanks article on Richt

Shits pretty scathing. No idea who the dude is and clearly his fanhood is shining through but I am salty I figured I'd post this because it's nice seeing others join me on the FCMR bus.

I think this article represents the way a lot of us feel. It isn't the losing to inferior opponents as much as we are utterly embarrassed by inferior opponents.

That's a pretty accurate piece. Hard to argue against it.

I agree that Richt seems too comfortable after losses. Maybe they really don't bother him as much as he says they do.

I agree with Bill's premise but what do I know, I'm just an alum with a keyboard and an internet connection...

The Georgia fan base is a funny one. It's a roller coaster. We will all get high on Georgia going up, come down the slope and a small minority wants change. We go back up for the second part of the track, get higher, come crashing down further and the minority gets louder. For years we have kept falling further and further down and each time we have the annual frick up more people get pissed. Many will go back to loving the staff and shite but what I have noticed is more and more are admitting what Richt is and isn't.

My dad said it best back in the Donnan years: "Son, Georgia has the most fickle fans in America. Once you realize this, things will start to make sense."

Richt will retire at GA at the time of his choosing.

Adjust your expectations, we will have at least 1 game like this a year, maybe more. Blowbo brain farts, special teams break down, one week we can't stop the run the next the pass. But given the current level of competition across the SEC, a championship is not in the offing much less the national.

We will rise up and peak at it from time to time as we did this year, but then descend into the masses.

My problem is after Missouri and Arky, I started to believe again. I shouldn't have done that.

So, adjust your expectations for this program, the administration and Richt have.

We are a unique one that is for certain

And that's what we all are. I'm not a coach or administator. But the only reason this program exists is because of people like us who will blow all of our earnings on the ability to go watch a bunch of kids throw around a ball. We aren't the experts but the experts wouldn't exist without us.

And that's the thing. I have adjusted. People who have known me on here have seen what I have been. I had my weekly anti Richt rants. More like daily. And lately I have just accepted what we are and what Richt is. But I still can't keep the disappointment buried.

Even with lowered expectations I can't help but hate that we refuse to become more than we are.

I wouldn't call a fanbase that gets extremely upset and frustrated after years of embarrassing, unemotional, season ruining losses to inferior opponents fickle.

You're only telling one half of the emotional swing, here. When we win, we're praising God above for bestowing such a magnificent bounty on us deserving UGA fans. When we lose, we spit at the feet of Richt and bemoan the fact that we are the most tortured creatures ever created. Some would call us bipolar, but really we're just:

Yea pretty much this. My big concern is that I think it's more than just Richt. I don't think just replacing Richt would actually change much. And that's not me defending Richt.

Now if we talk about the entire AD/administration adjusting their stances on certain things and deciding that UGA football needs to be on par with the other big teams, then I'm up for it.

well, they have killed people, teabagged people, attacked opposing fans in the stands, and poisoned the symbols of a rival fanbase. All during what is arguably their most prosperous era of football.

Hard to find another fanbase that stacks up to THAT.
