Why do some SEC schools claim SIAA and Southern Conference titles... Exactly. SoCon and SIAA titles from that period are mythical and no different from claiming national titles. Just because some random blog or site "recognizes" them doesn't change that.
They're not mythical. Champions were named

And national champions have been named as well. Are you really gonna argue that those aren't mythical?

You don't have to go to some blog or random site; those SoCon titles are listed in the fricking NCAA record book. The schools that claim them are right to do so.
Which doesn't explain why some schools claim SoCon titles not in the NCAA Record Book, which is a better question.

Just not sure why you're worried about titles that happened 100 years ago. The systems were different. That's just the way it is. It would have been nice if they had a title game each year, but they didn't. They prolly didn't think it was a big enough deal that an internet dweeb would bother with it 100 years later.

In this you're correct. They really didn't care enough about it to have a system in place. Things weren't really all that big of a deal.
However, you're digging up random websites that guys just put on the internet as "proof" of your points, so I'm not sure who the internet dweeb is here.

Not sure why people are jumping on Korin. He is good people. I see both sides argument. It really doesn't matter but is interesting.

There was no system. That's the point.

Eh, what can you do

Depends on your agenda. People who are fans of schools with inferior tradition are always the ones arguing about the legitimacy of the accomplishments of the more successful program.

There is no "agenda." Either something is mythical or it's not.

Right, the same CFDW who says that LSU is a better program all time than Tennessee.
Strength of schedule, bruh.

Why did you change the thread title? Your BS comments within do not support the original subject. Bama has 23 SEC titles, is this in dispute, now that you have edited?

Good morning, Korin. Nice to see Muschamp has your team competitive again so that you can actually pay attention to football during the season.

Why do some SEC schools claim Southern Conference titles... ...when there was no official conference champion between 1922-1932
While the Southern conference didn't officially recognize conference champions (there were like 16-23 teams at one time or another so you couldn't play every team), it was common practice for their undefeated teams to claim championships or co-championships since several times there were more than one undefeated team. While I'm not sure how long it was around, there was a Pickens Trophy that was awarded to the "top team from the South"...I only found 4 references to when/who it was awarded to (Vandy in '23, Bama in '24/'25/'26)...not sure who awarded this trophy but one reference mentioned it was a group of sports writers...

Alabama and Tennessee
Bama and UT are not the only current SEC teams claiming a Southern Conference championship. According to their athletic websites, Vandy claims 3 ('22, '23, '27) and Auburn claims 1 ('32)...seen LSU listed as a co-champion on several sites but LSU doesn't claim it. Of teams not currently in the SEC, not sure 'bout others but both North Carolina ('22) and Georgia Tech ('28) claim at least one (according to their media guides)...
Who knows? Perhaps if UF had gone undefeated during those years, they might've claimed one too...

The Pickens Trophy was awarded from 1923 to 1926 by newspaper vote. They were voting for the "official" SoCon champion.
