I feel bad for that kid. He's just a kid trying to dress up like his favorite player (he doesn't know what's wrong with that costume) but his parents should've known better. Why haven't people figured out that shite is offensive?

I think people overthink what is racially/gender/sexual/religious/etc offensive.

Probably so but unfortunately we're stuck in the past on a lot of things and there's also a generational split to boot. America needs to grow up and learn to have a conversation across religious/ethnic/racial etc. lines but so far we haven't done so in a way that makes stuff like this ok or at least something that people don't immediately kneejerk to and say "you know what? Let's see what was meant by this before we assume racism?". We've made tons of progress but we're not there yet. We desperately need to establish a level of trust so that we give one another the benefit of the doubt but without trust that won't happen.

There's nothing racist about it. If they had done traditional blackface exaggerating feature it would be a different story. This kid just wanted to look like his favorite player.

^Which is what I said above in my first post - that he just wanted to look like his favorite player. You don't have to darken your kids skin to do that. We're not there yet as a country even if your intentions are pure and I don't doubt that the parents meant no harm. It's not worth the inevitable hurt feelings, offense, recriminations that come from stuff like this.

I don't believe in any way this kid, nor his parents, were trying to lampoon AJ in any way. The kid was proud to be dressed as him, so if anything fault the parents, but for Christ's sake leave the kid alone.

Has a soul actually read a word I've written? Seriously?
