Renowned college football expert and magazine publisher Phil Steele was on the Herd with Colin Cowherd on Thursday and says that he feels Alabama is currently the best team in college football.

"I think the top team would be Alabama. All during the week I was thinking this- I'm thinking if I was playing all the teams in the country in a neutral spot right now, who would I favor over everybody else? My personal answer was Alabama," he said.

Steele adds that the SEC West accounts for the Las Vegas sports books' top four teams.

"Then I contacted Jay Kornegay over at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook. They're the guys that pretty much set the lines right off the bat. They're the lines that ESPN uses as well. I go, 'Jay am I off base here? Is Alabama favored over everybody else?' And he has got Alabama number one in the country in the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook's rankings.

"And here's something for you. He gave me his top five, actually. His top five is number one- Alabama, number two- Auburn, number three- Mississippi, number four- Mississippi State, and number five- TCU. Folks in Vegas aren't known to be partial to one conference or another, they just go with the best teams."

Couldn't care less. These mid-season rankings don't mean shite to me and they shouldn't to the team. I like our ranking right now and think it is actually quite generous. We haven't beaten anyone. If we run the table from here then there is no way we are left out of the final four.
