According to Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin, it boils down to Shazier playing at Ohio State. The Steelers’ connection to Ohio State is like the Ravens’ association to Alabama through General Manager Ozzie Newsome. Longtime Steelers Defensive Coordinator Dick LeBeau is a former Buckeye, so the Steelers have close ties with Ohio State’s program, specifically on defense.

They probably wish they hadn't. At the same time, they know way more about football than I.

Some decisions pan out and others don't.

Just stone cold mouth breather stupidity. I understand liking certain schools, but did they watch the mans tape?

I'm sure people could look at some of the Ravens past picks and make a similar argument. Some teams just like the way players from certain schools fit in and progress with their pro program. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. A player might be considered more valuable if he has already established chemistry with some of his teammates and knows a similar system

Yup. Miami is good for underrated players and I wouldnt draft a lb from psu. Sec is gold.

I don't really see a problem with it, Shazier was a white hot prospect coming off a great season and combine. I'm sure his measurables, however overrated those generally are, played a bigger factor than where he was from.
He's banged up while Mosley is on his way to DROY, so it magnifies the problem.

My thoughts is it's about like not picking the best candidate for the job because the employer is racist.
AKA: Steelers screwed themselves and I'm 100% fine with that. That's what happens when you are stupid.

I'm a Steeler fan and while I was somewhat disappointed in them not drafting CJ, Shazier is a very fast LB. Something the Steelers need at the moment. Shazier hasn't had the opportunity being injured but he's going to be pretty good.
I was also ticked 2 years ago when they choose Le'veon Bell instead of Lacy but that has turned out to be the better choice. Bell is one of the more complete backs in the NFL right now in just his 2nd season.

But Lacy is still better..

Yeah hard to argue the Steelers wouldn't be a better team with Lacy and Mosley.
Last year's offensive ROY and this year's potential DROY.

Bell is having a much better year this season than Lacy...and it isn't even close.
And for the record, the Steelers problems aren't drafting the wrong players...it's the Head Coach that's the problem. I'm NOT a fan of Tomlin at all.

Eh, he is having a better year, but not by that much.

Except Lacy still is a better back

Tomlin was once a very good coach I thought, but maybe it was the coordinators.

I'm glad Lacy is beasting now, but Bell already has nearly 2,000 yards from scrimmage

but you are right, He is having a better season, albeit while getting a good many more touches than Lacy. Bell is a beast.
