Killz, if you're ever back in town, let tArkyboard know again. You could have done MUCH better on your dining options. Glad you enjoyed our state.

So much this. LR has some really good dining, imo.

franke's cafeteria for one. only semi joking, i know it's for oldies but it's seriously one of my fave places in lr- been going with my mom since i was a teen and it was in university mall.

corn pones, egg plant casserole, baked chicken and mac n cheese (when i'm feeling evil) or cooked cabbage (when i'm not).

I agree, but it's hard to beat the deck on Cajun's for atmosphere.

I figured so much considering how many places we passed that looked interesting.

This. Essentially we were in LR for one day and night. Our friends were going for atmosphere and scenic beauty over 5 star food.

They told us that the next time we come to LR they won't take us on a tour of the town, but rather we will experience the best LR has to offer in terms of food and nightlife.

However, what are your food suggestions for future reference?

Just about anything but Cajuns wharf. Place was done for in the 80s. The deck is nice enough, but Brave New has a better view and there's no contest on the food.

I don't think your friends like you very much actually. That or they are new residents and don't know where to go ;).

I would recommend:

Steakhouses/Fine Dining:

Cache restaurant

Sonny Williams

Arthur's steakhouse (A-rod recently dined here.. cool, i know...)

Then there's always the favorites:

South on Main

Gus' fried chicken (A Memphis favorite that recently came to Ark)

Whole hog for some quick, good BBQ.

Craig's bbq if you ever get about an hour east of LR in DeVall's Bluff

Kemuri for the the upscale Japanese(same guy that owns Arthur's)

There's a lot to choose from for a weekend trip here. Little Rock may not have the most options for good food/fine dining, but it does have a few that are very good!

We might play up the Little Rock vs Northwest Arkansas feud on the forums but in all honesty both can be great places to spend some time. Little Rock is larger and has some rough neighborhoods but as far as cities go its as friendly and inviting of a place as you could hope to find.

Kemuri is legit. Their robata grill menu is insanely good. I have seriously considered making an entire meal out of multiple baby back ribs robata appetizers.

A couple of my favorites are Maddie's Place and Baja Grill.

Baja - Cuban burrito is amazing.

Maddie's - Most consistently good restaurant I've been to in LR. Wife loves the fried chicken. I always go w/ the ribeye special. It's only like $24 for a pretty large cut and quality ranges from "well above average" to "best steak ever."

Vesuvio is also really good. I don't get out there often since it is outside of my Heights/Hillcrest bubble, but they have a great wine menu and the food is excellent.

I haven't been there yet, but I hope they move out of their spot. The building they are in is a restaurant killer and the Tex Mex restaurant going in the old Brownings is going to be really buzzy. Who knows? I don't know how to run a restaurant, just like 70% of all restaurant owners.

I'm not the biggest fan of the location either, but they seem to have the restaurant completely full every time we go to eat there. Of the previous restaurants that occupied Baja's location, I had only been to Mamacita's, and it was dogshit.

The Taco and Tamale place that is opening in the old Browning's location will probably take away a bit of their business, but I think they have built up enough of a loyal customer base to weather that storm.

Has anyone been to Oishi yet? I've heard it was good, but the rent on that location has to be astronomical.

Also, there is a new pizza place that just opened up right next to Terry's called Pizzeria Santa Lucia. Good beers on tap and great pizza. The location is tiny, though, so it is hard to get a table.

Nope, but heard good things. Can't wait to try it out. I love Thai. Tired of only getting it a few times a year at Chang's in Sherwood.

I'd add Natchez and Table 28 to the "Best of" in LR. Headed to the latter for hub's birthday dinner tomorrow night! The quail lolipops and bone marrow appetizers are killer.

We probably eat at The Root more than any other restaurant in town. Love H.A.M., too.

ETA: I think The Pantry has some of the best food in town for the price. Wonder how long it will be before I can get into The Pantry Crest.

Our friends live on the northwest side of LR near Pinnacle Mountain. Beautiful country, newer subdivisions. In fact, they live at the base of the hill with all of the towers. Basically that hill lights up at night like a string of red Christmas light. Really pretty.

That's Shinall Mountain. Many times I have driven out there on clear nights to set up a telescope. It's really nice out Hwy. 10 and west of there in Winona Forest area. There's a lot of nice places around Little Rock. Glad you enjoyed your visit.
