"Computers are only as good as the inputs, which are obviously biased in favor of the SEC"...

Both rankings make perfect sense.

I'm seeing a strong anti-SEC bias in those CFP rankings.

The Massey Composite includes computer rankings and human polls.

I'd love to see a computer rating that shows the SEC teams ranked lower than they are in the CFP. I suspect one does not exist.

No, they don't. Both LSU and aTm were dominated in both losses this year. LSU is improving and may climb into the top 12 by seasons end. aTm has no business being ranked on any list other than shittiest FBS teams.

pretty much sums it up...Would love to see how Oregon, Mich. St., TCU, FSU etc would do with our schedule...or an sec west schedule.

quote:They do, and there is ample math to back it up. It's perfectly logical. Just because you don't get it doesn't mean that it doesn't make sense. Saying that these rankings do not make sense is no different from saying the same of the quadratic formula.
No, they don't.
If you take winning percentage, don't count FCS wins, and weigh the old BCS SOS formula equally to winning percentage, here are your top ten:
1 Mississippi State
2 Florida State
3 Auburn
4 Mississippi
5 Alabama
6 Oregon
7 Marshall
8 Notre Dame
9 Nebraska
10 Louisiana State
And this is before you account for quality wins. So yeah, these rankings make perfect, mathematical sense.

The Bassett Football Model
State sitting at #36. Alabama and Georgia are the only SEC in the top 10. LINK

It takes into account margin of victory, "offensive power," and "defensive power."
Basically, it's taking objective data and doing everything it can to make it subjective. This is probably designed to be a "predictor" system for prop bets and things like that. I mean, when you have a team who runs the ball, doesn't turn it over, and is playing Purdue this week, maybe they're one of the top ten teams on whom you should bet this Saturday.
