This game is going to come down to how well LSU's D can stop Bama. Everyone was complaining about Miles' offensive philosophy after the MSU and Auburn losses, but I said after those games that the difference between years past and this year is that in years past, our defense would hold our opponent to 10-14 points and those two games would have been a 17-14 type of game, even if LSU would have lost. The defense has been, and will in the foreseeable future be the crux of LSU's success.

Now, LSU has made some key changes and some young players on defense are growing up quickly. I know Florida's offense is about as bad as they come, but the last three games against UF, UK, and OM have been impressive defensive performances. If the defense can play well and stop Bama, our offense is geared towards wearing teams down, controlling the clock, and scoring just enough to win the game. The key is being able to keep playing with that offensive philosophy throughout the game, i.e., not getting down by 2 or more scores early.

Here is how I see the game playing out. If LSU's D can hold Bama to 10 points or less, I think LSU wins. If Bama scores anywhere between 10 and 20 points, I think the game goes either way. If Bama scores more than 20, Bama wins.

how are you gong to wear us down and control the clock when you are going 3 and out every possession?

I think it'll be higher scoring than people think. Their secondary is above average at best. We should be able to complete a few throws.

Something like 23-20.

I don't think we go three and out every possession. Next question?

In all seriousness, LSU's offense is prone to some three and outs. However, later in the game LSU is always going to have fresh legs in the backfield. If we don't have to abandon the run, that bodes well for LSU especially the way our O-line has been playing.

Whichever team scores more point will win imo.

Alabama's offense seems to not match-up as well with LSU's defense this year, like in recent years.

Alabama usually has a counter method to LSU's athletic and fast defense, which is power (or was in recent years). This year, however, Alabama seems to be unable to use the power we are used to seeing. They seem to be more finesse and that works into LSU's favor, IMO.

I'll help out the fairly obvious point system you have broken down with a factual chart.

LSU's D isn't holding bama to 10 points or less. LSU is going to have to make some plays on offense to stay in the game

I agree for the most part, and it will definately be a hell of a game.(depending on which Bama offense shows up).

Is abandoning the run even an option at this point?

After LF ends a few bama defenders's seasons, there will be bigger holes.

Well, eventually you have to. See MSU game.

I'm not worried about 3 and outs. The thing that bugs me the most is sustaining drives and then stalling miserably inside the redzone. Our offense isn't designed to be creative in that part of the field. I think if Bama forces us to kick 2 field goals after having 1st down inside the 30 yard line, we lose. Hell, it almost bit us in the arse last week.

I think its more of the Gumps defense against our Offense. I think our D will be OK. Its the offense that must be able to move the ball and keep the TOP close.

Bad sarcasm but if we have to resort to throwing heavy we have already lost

I think it comes down to LSU being able to throw well enough to keep bama's defense honest.

Otherwise lsu just goes 3 and out a lot, their D wears down and Bama pulls away for a comfortable win, not unlike the 2011 NC game.

Looks like they'll be out their LT as well. That could be a huge break for LSU.

You don't know wtf you're talking about. You'd have said the same thing about Ole Miss. Either team could beat the other 35-31 or 10-6.
