Why these rankings are a scam

If you'll notice the committee put three SEC teams in this week's ranking and everyone has already said "wow! looks like they don't care about conference champions!". I'm here to tell you that's absolute bullshite.
First, the SEC teams are ranked high, but they are ranked in order of the likelihood they win the conference championship.
Miss. St. is the only undefeated so obviously the best chance
Auburn's only loss is to Miss. St. and in the event of a three way tie they would go to Atlanta because of Scar and UGA as cross conference wins.
Ole Miss still controls its own destiny
Alabama needs some help and for Ole Miss to lose again.
So what does this mean? It means that whoever wins the SECW is getting in. Obviously. However, look at the dispersed teams right after all of the west teams (which will undoubtedly drop by massacring each other).
2. FSU (automatic bid essentially)
5. Oregon (automatic bid essentially, as their schedule should be without another loss and their loss to an unranked team at home is obviously being ignored)
7. TCU (Or replace here with 9. Kansas State if they win the B12)
8. Mich St. (B10 champ)
Yes they may seem far down now, but if they can run their schedule, they will slowly move up over the slew of SECW teams right now. After championship weekend, the playoff committee will be "justified" in putting one of Mich. St/TCU/Kstate in over the other SECW teams.
It sucks, and these rankings don't do anything for the SEC, nor do they suggest that a conference champion won't get in.

What we've learned is they aren't going to use any eye test bullshite. It's going to be about resume: who you beat, who you lost to, and where you played.
That's it. And that's how it should be.
All these dumbass analysts putting Alabama in their top 3 (some even #1) are going to have to get over themselves. No more "eye" test.
I think they did a great job.

We won't get 3 in, and they'll have a much better case for that in a month. Alabama gets in if they win out, so does UGA. No reason for any SEC team in contention to be worried.

Classic attack trick
1 Wait till dark
2 Rustle grass in front
3 Launch attack from the back

I agree, the eye test won't matter anymore. I do believe that Auburn/Alabama/Miss St/Ole Miss are four of THE best teams in CFB and are probably better choices than any team they could put in besides FSU and maybe Oregon, but that won't matter. The committee wants to see who comes out of the SEC and that's about it.

I agree with all of this, but I agree with the gump as well. Just the way it is in the SECw this year.

Alabama has beaten no ranked teams this season. They lost in their only game against a ranked opponet, most agree that aside from the aggregious penalty missed call, they lost by nearly two touchdowns.
Yeah Alabama has top recruits and looks the part but it's about the résumé.

No shite. Probably cause no one has played a CCG.

These rankings mean nothing. When there is this much football left to be played and the teams at the top having to play each other, these rankings are empty.

Exactly. They looked at a teams most impressive W's, who they lost to and where it was played, head-to-head games, and games against common opponents. That is exactly what they said they would do.

I actually couldn't agree more.
I KNEW they were gonna put 3 SEC teams in the top 4. It appears after a few weeks to look highly impartial and unbiased. It's a very smart, strategic, political starting point for their first rankings.
They know they're gonna get blowback regardless of how they do it. Better to do it in a way that makes the initial narrative "SEC bias" but anyone non too reactionary will quickly realize what you've posted. Auburn OM game immediately knocks one of those two out of the top 4. Bama Auburn game further deepens the hole for one or knocks the other out of the top 4. the Egg bowl hurts one of the two Miss teams.
Not sure I agree or disagree ultimately with the initial rankings. But we all better get damn used to this type of nightmare every year while the SEC is still king... or until they extend to much larger than 4 teams. (we all know that's inevitable.)

Those top four SEC teams almost all still have to play each other. It's likely that at least one will get two losses out of the deal, and unlikely that anyone remains undefeated. The losers will quickly drop out and be replaced with whom the committe actually wants in there.
This is simply a PR nod to the SEC market which is pretty much driving this truck right about now.
I seriously doubt we even see two SEC teams in the last bracket.

After seeing what they did tonight, I believe that the SEC has a great shot at getting 2 teams.

Does a 2 loss SEC champion from the West get in? Not at all thinking LSU will finish with 2 losses. Miss State is in great position and can afford a loss being at the top. But two losses late in year would drop them significantly. Lets assume the beat GA in sec championship, does SEC get shut out in this scenario?
