This is why I just can't believe we're only here by chance

There comes a point when you can't wrap your mind around something. For some people it doesn't takes much, like me.

This is what I can't wrap my mind around.

*10 thousand years ago.
*If we give a modest 25 years per generation that would be 400 generations ago.
*If 10 thousand years ago your Great (x 400) Grandfather or grandmother didn't feel like boning that night, you don't exist.
* If he jerked off earlier that day, you don't exist.
* if he died of a cold the winter before or got sick of your great (x 400) grandmothers damn mouth three weeks before sexy time was to happen, you don't exist.

Here's the deal, I'm no genius and the math gets shakey that far out and astronomical, but just going back 15 generations gives you 16,384 sets of grandparents. Just 15 generations.

One single thing different the night any of those 16,384 couples conceived your next in line, you don't make it here. One ovulation period change. One anything.

That's too many variables for me to believe we aren't here on purpose.

That's just a measly 15 generations. What about going back 500,000+ years?

You look at it that way, I look at it as the cold harsh reality of nature.

My mind just isn't able to comprehend me ending up on the favorable end of those odds.

Nothing spiritual has yet to show itself in my life. I've looked for it since I was a child.

Ghosts, higher powers, spirits.. fricking Santa Claus.

I become more and more comfortable with the idea that we are one and done beings on this Earth. I plan to make it count.

And someone else is. Not really hard to wrap your head around. No more magical than a piece of fruit, or a head of cattle.

I'm not even talking spiritual. I just can't get past the numbers and unlikelihood of any of us being here right now.

So predestination?

I don't see the strong logic then. I look at it like evolution.. people want to (even today) try and refute evolution asking; how can we be such a complex, perfect creature without divine intervention?

Well I say if we didn't have our systems as complex as they are then we wouldn't be living, and if your 100x great Gpa didn't bang your 100x great Gma out then you might not have been here. Random sequences brah..

You laid out a wonderful example of how you came to be by chance and that makes you doubt that you came to be by chance?

For the record,
400 generations ago we had 2.58224987808691E+120 grandparents.

That's in exponential form, meaning move the decimal 120 places to the right.

Now obviously there wasn't that many people on earth at that time so it's not that easy to explain. But that doesn't change that there are a vast and endless, billions among billions of variables that make the chance of us managing to be born incalculable.

That's correct, the more unlikely something becomes the more unlikely I view it to be chance.

If I hit a jackpot on a slot machine in Vegas 100 times in a row I would start to believe something was up. I couldn't comprehend that happening naturally so I would assume someone had control of the situation.

I'm not sure why your adding up all the grandparents and once then saying that there weren't that many people in the world at one time.

You only have two sets of grandparents at one time. That giant number is useless.

Not really. All it means is that our ancestors were a bunch of cousin frickers.

That's why I believe Alabama held the birth and expansion of the human race.

The odds of you being born are 100%.

This thread is stupid.

How many sets of great grandparents do you have, slope?
