Are 2 SEC teams good enough to get in? Absolutely. Probably 3 are.

This being the first year of the playoff though, no one knows who will get in. You can't just assume that it will work similar to the BCS system. But we do know the playoffs were pretty much made so that Conference Champions would become an important factor. (Which it should be) I think people are going to be shocked when 2 don't get in.

Also, It shouldn't be the 4 best teams in the playoff. It should be the 4 most deserving make it in. Otherwise, why play the games?

"Deserving?" Deserving to me are the BEST teams. 3, if not 4 of those are SEC teams, but that won't happen.

Do a lot of people assume we'll get two? That's news to me. Most informed people realize two is unlikely right now. SEC will need some 2-loss champs from other conferences and a 2-loss ND.

If you're the best team but couldn't win your conference, you didn't deserve it. Best is purely subjective. Deserving at least has some objectivity to it.

There aren't very many informed people on this board

We won't get two. And, this is going to be an extremely unpopular opinion, but we shouldn't get two either. At least not under the current 4-team setup with 5 major conferences.

Because if Alabama doesn't win the West, they still need a way to get them into the playoffs.

Said it before and I'll say it again...if you're looking for insight into what the committee will do, look at the trial run they did in August using the 2008 season as a model. They took a #3 ranked, one loss, non-conference champion Texas and left out a one loss B1G conference champion Penn State. They valued strength of schedule over a conference championship.

Is that a guarantee of what they will do this time? No. But if you're looking for insight into how they will think, that's the best you're gonna get.

Not necessarily at all. See my post above.

And those wins over West Virginia and Kansas State loom large for Alabama and Auburn if either wins the Big 12, and Alabama or Auburn finish with one loss but not in the SECCG.

The committee already made the statement in August that strength of schedule may very likely trump conference championships.

most of the rant, in my opinion, believes that while the SEC has 2+ best teams, that only one will get in, as the playoff was planned in the aftermath of 2011, and the rest of the country never wants to see a one conference championship ever again.

Right now, there are 5 SEC teams in play for the playoff, which is at least one more than any other conference. But the reason for this is simple, these 5 teams have only had two total games between them.

Including the SECCG, there are 6 more losses to spread out between AU, Bama, Ole Miss, Miss St, and Georgia. It's also probable that 1-3 more losses will get put on these teams collectively from other teams in the SEC. By the end of the season, These losses will clarify, and most probably, reduce the viable playoff teams in the SEC to one.

The big10, big12, Pac12, and Notre Dame are going to provide two 1 loss teams, along with the SEC champ and FSU, there simply isn't room for a two loss SEC team that failed to win the conference title.

Any team can win on any given Saturday, but that would not mean that they are the best team in the conference. Wonder if Georgia and Miss. State go to the SEC championship game, and Georgia wins, do you honestly believe that they are the best team in the conference and should go to the playoffs? This sort of thing could happen, because the East is so weak and the west is so strong.

The country wants to see diversity in this playoff ~ conference commissioners want to see diveristy. We won't see two SEC teams in the inaugural playoff.

This is the Rant, I think using logic is not allowed any more.

Can you rephrase that in the form of a troll and make it short for the TL;DR crowd?

Giving you an upvote for the post as some still care about reality.

I don't believe two SEC teams make it in. The SEC rep needs to win the SEC and have only one loss.
