Searched for a good 5 mins and found nothing.

quote:

According to a report from Al.com, the Crimson Tide Foundation paid off Saban's $3.1 million home in January 2013 even though the organization was under no obligation to do so.

So what? He still has to pay taxes on that money. Does that make you feel better?

Apparently it's a pretty big deal because it's the 2nd headline on Al.com and was picked up by ESPN.

Don't shoot the messenger here.

Ah just more hypocrispy from the NCAA. Boosters paying off a house for a coach who makes millions of $$$'s/yr but if they paid for a players rent then bam big violation. @ NCAA.

No this is not a call for the NCAA to come down on Bama, just a shot at the NCAA>

"the University of Alabama also owned the home of Paul "Bear" Bryant and his family."

That was 40 years ago. Hardly a groundbreaking concept. The next guy after Saban gets a pretty cool pad.

It is?

I know the elite coaches are taken care of outside of the box but haven't ever heard anything like this before.

does he? Did they buy the house or did they give him money to pay mortgage?

If they bought the house there has to be some tax reason?

If the boosters actually bought the house, it's not the same.

Saban is not an amateur athlete. Big difference - until they change the rules of amateurism.

I think he probably is SOL on tax write off with Alternative Min tax, but honestly I am pretty weak in that area.
