Pereira alleges officiating crews received information from a mystery figure while discussing penalty calls in the two games. In the first game, the call in question was an intentional grounding penalty called against Dak Prescott. Pereira says officials were seen listening to instructions before making the correct call and waving off the penalty. Saturday, the call in question concerned a personal foul penalty called on a Tennessee first quarter punt.

I looked for video of it but couldn't find any. WTF is going on here?

How big of a shite show would there be if this turned out to be true?

Wait so are you saying they listened to an outside source on what the call should be?

Cause if so i think it should be that way. They should have a offical much like the review guy that has quick access to all rules and video to look at things and discuss with offcials on field how the call should be made.

officials blow calls (fumbles, ints, TDs) all the time. Why should we think they dont blow penalties as well

on the UT game I was wondering what it was taking them so long to argue this and what they were listening too. NS was the same on the sideline as you could read his lips. Only think I could figure is they were trying to debate on whether the player should be kicked out and were getting a second opinion

Unless he had the headset frequency and listened in, he has no fricking clue.

Truth.

However, there are people that believe the conspiracy that these refs are somehow calling the games to best benefit the SEC somehow. Which I believe is what the accusation is here.

Yes in Tenn vs Bama, the refs want an SEC team to win?

They would want the team with a chance of going to the playoffs to win, according to the conspiracy theory.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised. We ALL bitch about how bad the SEC refs are.

Bad =/= corrupt, though.

It's a big accusation. Just wondering if there is any proof...

I remember Dak getting a grounding call but don't recall a discussion. What was worse was the one they missed on Marshall in the late 3rd/early 4th. Ball went beyond the line of scrimmage but Marshall was clearly inside the tackle box.

I've often thought it would be great to post ads on major boards and in papers announcing a reward for any concrete proof of corruption in the SEC. Do it similar like when Larry Flynt put out a reward for any dirt on politicians. Offer something big, million plus dollar bounty, for evidence that takes this rumor out once and for all.

It would be entertaining, if nothing else, and might actually do some good.

Exactly. He doesn't know what is being said or who is saying it.

The article already says that officials wear headsets to talk to each other. In a big game atmosphere with the bands playing, crowd noise, etc. I could see them talking in a somewhat normal voice using the headsets as opposed to having to yell to be heard over the noise around them.

I remember the play he's talking about, it took the refs about 2 minutes to make a call after throwing a flag. I didn't notice them doing anything shady though when I watched the replay.

I'm assuming nobody on here was watching Ohio State v Penn State, but if we are gonna talk about refs helping the favorite win, I gotta mention it. Penn State got HOSED by the replay official.
