I'm not one of those who's mad at Mauk. I still want him to succeed because I love his style and he's ours.

But the quarterback shoulders most of the blame because if he's accurate / outstanding, even with substandard shite around him, the offense can still succeed. It's like the difference between Sam Bradford and Austin Davis.

The Bradford Moms blamed everyone but Sam, although many of their points were legit (and the same ones we're discussing with Mizzou) - horseshite receivers, bleh OLine play, etc. Yet when the change finally occurred, the Rams suddenly started throwing for 300+ a game and scoring more.

In the case of Sam, it's that he wouldn't go deep - Checkdown Sam.

In the case of Mauk, it's that he can't checkdown accurately.

I dont think the two situations are all that similar. Just my opinion though.

Bradford has been struggling with health issues and his reciveres were shite for his first years here.

I dont like Bradford and Im glad we are moving on so there is that.

Not trying to be argumentative at all. Just trying to make the point that for the first time in a while we dont have a bonafide ++QB at Mizzou. We have been spoiled. The mid range QB coupled with the deficiencies on the OL and in our WR corps has mad for a perfect storm of shite offense.

Mauk is going to need playmakers of above grade talent in the receiving ranks and an OL that will allow him the time to check down off his primary. If not, he is what he is. He is a mid range QB. This team should be able to recruit enough in the skill positions to offset that. Hopefully next yeat some of these younger types step up and or Printz or Lock step up.

Oh OK. We're actually in agreement then.

I was fooled, however. I thought MM was the type of QB who would elevate average receivers. He's probably not.

Well, I never thought that, he has serious holes in his game. I still think he could be a serviceable college QB but that Heisman nonsense was way off the mark.

Probably. I just think there is a lack of talent on the offense across the board.

Hope it changes. Kind of interesting to see the defense carry this team though.

He was better. Yes, it was Vandy but he was better.

He wasn't awful this game and that's a step in the right direction.

The best thing for me to do is finally make the jump to K-State, it's time. I always wanted to be a Wildcat.

You're over analyzing the stats, and not looking at the actual problems Mauk faces every game. Culkin can't catch a simple slant pass over the middle which could explain why we don't throw over the middle of the field, or utilize the tight-ends in the passing game more often. (thank god Blanton might provide some pass catching ability next season). One of our captains Sasser drops a simple 5 yard hitch, which would have gone for a first down. (Sasser is our best receiver though) Hunt has dropped several passes this season so he isn't very reliable either. White is either injured, or acting like a diva when he doesn't get the ball thrown his way. The receiving corps is terrible this year, and part of the reason is Pinkel refusing to let the younger receivers get experience instead trusting the seniors to catch the ball. The offensive line can't get the snap count right at home, and kills the momentum of many drives. The lineman struggle to pass block, and seem more effective run blocking which could explain why Henson called 46 run plays this weekend including some designed QB runs to help our terrible WR's get more space to make plays. Mauk has two possibly three play-makers on offense this year, and two of them are running backs.

I looked at the box score for all of about 5 seconds. I doubt I'm over analyzing them. The WR's and OL all have issues. Never said they don't. Mauk is not good...this year at least. I will hope that he figures it out though some time during the next 2 years though because we know he will be the starter for that long.

Not trying to be argumentative, and not aimed necessarily at you Reedus. I don't know of hardly any QB that could be "successful" with the offensive personnel they are using right now. It's not a secret that many good or even great QB's would be ordinary with this supporting cast.

I think MM did step forward this week, but with dropped passes, leaking O-line on critical downs and running backs running into your back knocking your pass off target (another critical down), I find it really hard to lay any blame on MM for the offense sputtering. You could see the frustration in his eyes at times. He also did something he really hasn't done much of lately and that's running the ball. He actually looked like a dual threat QB again when cut loose. I like the little deception play at the beginning of the game too(direct snap).

Other issues, sure, but Mauk has been awful.

He wasn't awful Saturday, he was merely below average. Hopefully he keeps progressing and can simply be average the rest of the way.

Mauk has made his share of mistakes sure, but is anyone denying the fact without Mauk we don't win at USCe, close out the Vandy game (scrambled for a first down aided by face mask, then throws touchdown pass to win the game) Without a doubt in my mind I can say Vandy wins the game if we have to punt the ball back to Vandy because the Vandy QB had confidence, and moved the ball all day against our defense. (See 2012 Syracuse, 2014 Indiana) Mauk has made plays in key situations this year, and nobody brings up the fact that we gave up 31 points at home against Indiana. Usually 27 points should be enough to win a game, but the defense's inability to get off the field on 3rd down lost that game for us not Mauk. The Georgia game is the only game where Mauk deserves criticism, and his receivers tipped balls to defenders in that game causing turnovers. Pinkel is absolutely correct 120% with sticking with Mauk. The supporting cast this year is terrible beyond the RB'S simple as that.

He was terrible at SC save the last drive. Terrible against UGA. Pretty bad against FL. Below average against Vandy. Somehow, we are 3-1 in those games so that tells me we have some good pieces otherwise.

You say he made some plays against SC and Vandy. He did, but do we need game saving plays if he wasn't playing so poorly for the rest of the game.

Numbers don't lie, and statistically there has been no worse QB in our league.

Like I said though, he was a little better on Saturday so hopefully he builds on that.

I agree and disagree with your statements. There is a lack of talent on the offensive side but Mauk has made the situation way worse than it should be. For every good throw he makes he throws 3 more that are just horribly bad. A lot of short arming, balls thrown behind or way over receivers. That is what he has shown on film.

A receiver may not look initially open on first glance but as a QB you just give em a chance to make plays.

We ran the ball 2/3 of the time. I would be happy if that number got to 3/4 of the time. The one thing I absolutely hate to see is 2nd and 5 and we throw the ball, killing the drive. Just run the damn ball again. Pick up even 2 or 3 and run it again. Throwing the ball too much is just a drive killer.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen an open receiver right in front of MM and have shouted at the TV to get him the damn ball. Then he decides to take an intentional grounding penalty instead.

I really think the majority of his problems are coming from the receivers. Losing DGB and Copelin was very big. They struggle to get open on every play, and it doesn't matter whether you a pee wee QB or Peyton Manning, if no one's open then you can't hit what isn't there.

Speaking of WR's, I suppose it can no longer be considered a wasted redshirt for Nate Brown. He now has 1 reception for 4 yards after the Vandy game.

Mauk impressed me this week. It takes a special kind of QB to throw a pass to himself and actually end up with positive yardage out of it...
