Why has Tennessee been so un-good?

I just read some mind boggling numbers...
If Tennessee loses Saturday, they will have finished with a non-winning conference record for the 7th consecutive year, and 8 out of the last 10.
Since 2008 they are 14-37 in league play, with 9 of those 14 wins coming against Vandy or Kentucky. That makes them 5-34 against the rest of the SEC since that time.
What the frick? We could definitely blame coaching, but even Mike DuBose won an SEC Championship, and Mike Shula won 10 games.

It's like Bama post-Stallings but without the 10 win season every now and then.

schools like auburn florida alabama and lsu leave little room for them to find decent players.

They will soon be in here, blaming Dooley for not recruiting OL in 2012

To Hell with Tennessee.
Let them rot in their garbage truck workers convention stadium.

5) ?

Good point. The last time they were an actual national threat, AU, UA, and LSU were down.

FWIW...Big 6 records since 2005 (9.5+ seasons, end of '14 will be 10 years) ...
Bama... 101 - 25
LSU... 101 - 26
Fla... 90 - 34
UGA... 90 - 36
Auburn.. 84 - 38
UT... 60 - 59
Just where UT is in relation to the rest of the Big 6...

So many things have gone wrong but the couple most un-good things are in my opinion:
Coaching changes : 4 coaches in 6 years - causes roster shifts, defections, philosophy changes, multiple OC and DC changes within those 6 years ect.
Bad Coaches: Kiffin and Dooley have proven to be bad Head coaches. Butch looks better but he hasn't proven he can do it in the SEC yet he has a few more years to prove that though
Rise of other programs: It started with UGA in the mid 2000's, then UF again with Meyer, Bama getting Saban, Carolina getting Spurrier and the final cherry for a couple years when we fully bottomed out was Franklin at Vandy.
Put all those three things in a pot and combine them with a high level of dysfunction on campus at the BOT and President on down to AD level for many years and you get a shite sandwich.
Tennessee fans as hard as it is HAVE to be patient with Butch Jones and his staff. He deserves 4 full years to prove himself and maybe even five.
If he hasn't gotten our program competing for the East by then we can move on but at least by that time we will have some level of stability and the way he is recruiting talent on the roster for the next guy to take over with.
I think he will have us back next year personally at least being competitive and going .500 or better in the SEC from here on out.

This one is easy.
Georgia, Bama and AU.
Those three teams pretty much kicked UT out of Georgia recruiting which is where they have traditionally built their team's roster. Tennessee doesnt have an in state recruiting base.
Phat Phil could bring in top classes using inroads into Georgia and Florida. Bama, UGA and AU have shut down those pipelines pretty much so UT flounders around hoping for the next great recruiter that can go into Georgia and Florida and actually win some battles for players.

Yet the bama/UT game is THE reason not to do away with permanent cross division games because it's THE rivalary game of the yr in college football. That most hallowed TWIO game. What a joke.

He can't lose a game like he did vs Florida this year again.
That loss was inexcusable.
