Why do anonymous message boards bring out the worst in people?

I would never tell someone to go frick themselves IRL but I will on here with the quickness.
Is it that we are truly rotten within and are able to simply be ourselves on this medium or is there just a small part of each of us that needs to tell the entire world to frick off sometimes and sports fans are where we point the laser?
I just find it interesting.

#1- I have absolutely told people to go frick themselves IRL. Usually alcohol was consumed by at least one party in the exchange with the exception of the homeless guy who was accosting my wife.
#2- Most people need a release. Acting like an a-hole or an internet tough guy is a total 180 from how most have to live their lives and it's therapeutic to be able to unleash the rage on someone you don't know.
#3- They do it for the lulz.

The rant has turned me into a horrible e-person. I used to be all polite and shite on the internet, now my first reaction whenever seeing something is 'this article gave me AIDS.' or 'OP is a ****.'
I literally can't stop myself from being an a-hole.
