Still glad we took Matthews over Greg. Both will be good, but Jake is better suited for what the birds are trying to do.

We just didn't need a guard. Blalock is decent and Asamoah is pretty good.
We needed a tackle, desperately.

Yep. Baker, Blalock, Hawlyer, Asamoah, Matthews would have been a pretty decent unit.

Sigh

The Falcons didn't take Matthews over Robinson.

WTF?

A lot of talks of trading up to get him.
It would have happened IMO if Blank didn't make it vocal that he liked Matthews.

Yea - if we really wanted Robinson we would have gone up to get him.

Glad we didn't (and I think Robinson will be a very solid OG).

Yes.

He will also, one day, be very good NFL tackle. His first day in the league, he was already stronger and quicker than Matthews. All he needs is further coaching and experience.

I think that question is still up in the air, hence why he was a riskier pick at #3.

He has a lot of good qualities about him, I just doubt he will ever be able to mentally comprehend the tackle position.

Maybe one day he will be able to, but he will never play LT. I think he should stay at guard where he can excel instead of attempt to become a mediocre RT.

Blank is still injecting himself into draft and personnel decisions?

Now I unnderstand the Falcons continuing woes better.

Maybe the Falcons would have a better chance using Blank's selections if they decided to form a professional polo team?

Blank is in the middle of everything, though I really have no problems with it. He isn't Jerry Jones.

I just hope he is willing to pull the trigger on TD and Mike Smith after this season.

His decisions have fared better than most of Smith's/TD's decisions. In fact, I would much rather Blank take over drafting, because our gm and coach are fricking terrible at it.

A-fin-men.

I swear to all that is holy if they bring those 2 back I am going to just drive around town with a bag over my head.

You know what I mean. Glad they "ended up with" JM over GR.

I mean not to turn this into a Falcons thread (ok lets turn this into a Falcons thread), but the state of the defense after those 2 have been here this long is just a laugher.

As Chuck and Chernoff have said, you are ALLOWED to hit on a 2nd to 5th round pick. It happens. They don't all have to be total wastes of space.

Just depressing.

Yeah, I'm sure the professional talent evaluators of the Rams Professional Ball Club took your evaluation into account so they decided to use the #2 overall pick on a career OG/RT.

Poor kid just can't "mentally" handle the position. You can tell the "mental" difference between Robinson and Matthews just by comparing photos of the 2 players, amirite?

I have nightmares it won't happen.
I wish Blank would just fire them both now. At least using our OC as an interim head coach, we will have a good excuse for losing the rest of our games.

You seriously saying this is a race thing?

Every scout/source/etc said the same thing : Robinson has a higher ceiling, Matthews is the safer pick and will be a solid-very good LT for 15 years. The Falcons couldn't afford to gamble on a guy who might turn into a good LG with the #3 pick. I guess the Rams felt they could.

I mean, the reports already came out that the reason he isn't playing tackle is because he could not grasp the blocking schemes of a tackle.

Not sure why you are taking personal offense over a player who can't figure out NFL blocking schemes of a tackle.

Worst part is the NFC South is so bad they will luck into a few more wins and destory their draft spot.

They need to hurry up and fire TD, be terrible and then trade their #1 pick for about 5 1st-3rd round picks to restock the defense.
