What is halloween like in your area?

For the past 3 years, Halloween is almost non existent in my neighborhood. When I first bought my house, I went all out for Halloween. Dressed up -decorated the house from top to bottom. Then I realized, I was literally the only one who did..anything.

When Halloween came the first year in my new neighborhood, nobodys porch light was on, no trick or treaters.. nothing. completely dark. My kids had to settle with a last minute pumpkin patch party at a local church because that was the only thing going on, which pretty much just bummed us all out. Now three years later, I just dont do anything anymore. Growing up in Austin, TX, Halloween was THE holiday. Here? Satans day blah blah blah blah

We mostly worship Satan, bathe in goat's blood, and sometimes we sacrifice a homeless person. But we only do that if we can find a black one, you know, because that's the one that pleases the dark lord and what not.

It's a real hoot. Oh, and we usually do this whilst listening to Jewel's "Foolish Games" on a continuous loop...it really sets the mood.

Same here. We have two little guys in our house and Halloween is a BIG deal to them. However, our neighborhood is older and most of the kids in the area have grown up, moved off etc. So we dont get that much traffic on Halloween as we used to. Kinda sucks.

Been in our current home 7 years and despite tons of kids in the neighborhood we dont have any trick or treaters. We get maybe two rings at the door.

One year, a guy used his fourwheeler and trailer to cart around about 10 kids, but thats the most weve ever had

Halloween in my neighborhood lasts from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and that's it. A few years ago the residents got sick of groups of 14-20 year olds walking from house to house without costumes on, carrying duffel bags, banging on doors and demanding candy into the late hours of the night. Rules had to be put in place to end this.

A lot of the churches have "Trunk or Treat" now so that people don't even have to be at home for Halloween to avoid the scenario above, and can take their children to a safe environment for some Halloween fun.

As someone that doesn't like kids, I keep my light off on Halloween. However, I love the holiday because it's my birthday and I love all the old horror films (halloween, Friday the 13th, nightmare on elm st., etc.). I really don't celebrate most holidays. I just like getting the time off work.

Halloween movies at my house consist of - Nightmare before Christmas, Halloweentown and the epic, historic tale called - Hocus Pocus.

I have kids.

Until the 1980's it was like a huge multi block party.

Parent A took kids and trick or treated and socialized with neighbors
Parent B stayed home and passed out candy to the kids and cigs / beer to the adults

Then
Greed became good
Smoking became taboo
PI's meant no more beer
Beat cops got replaced by drive by cops or no cops at all
Neighborhood turnover meant less social folks and more loners
SFH's got converted to rental property
Drugs entered neighborhood
Guns entered neighborhood
Nice folks moved away

Pretty soon gentrification will come along and move me to the suburbs or a nursing home

frick the 80's

Parents and kids from the poor end of town get in hay rides and go around the neighborhoods in the nicer part of town. I'm fine with people doing that and all but when you walk down the middle of the fricking street like it's a sidewalk, I get irritated. I had to lay on the horn when I was in high school one time because there was a large group of people with their kids walking down the middle of the road.
