why wait until today to apply for reinstatement?

I'm guessing because they had proof that the dollar amount in question would equal 2 games. Why look dumb and ask for reinstatement when you know you won't get it?

Because it's the rule

He broke an NCAA rule - therefore it was incumbent upon UGA to suspend him for breaking that rule. Otherwise we risk games/wins being nullified.

he still broke NCAA rules. Just because we actually suspended him, we have to show we did our diligence in investigating the matter and punishing appropriately (in this case, 2 games). Then they will give us the green light on reinstatement.

Perhaps they should have taken the FSU's see-no-evil-hear-no-evil approach and not suspended him in the first place.

Perhaps. But, that's just how Richt rolls. It wouldn't have been as easy to swallow had the Dawgs not rolled the last two weeks, that's for sure.

The prevailing thought with some insiders is that it can only be proven that Gurley only took enough money to warrant a 1 game NCAA suspension. Speculation is that UGA asked Gurley about this before any off this was coming out and Gurley said he never took money. When proof came to light about the money, UGA imposed 1 game of their own for not coming forward with it directly.

I am not saying this happened, but my first post was in reference to this theory. If true, it would make since as to why there was an NCAA statement as to them waiting on reinstatement papers last week before the Arkansas game.

I think uga was presented with evidence in some form that money changed hands and had to act or risk games being forfeited or vacated. Unless the ncaa has evidence or substantial reason to believe Gurley received more compensation than is being acknowledged, he will likely be reinstated upon repayment of the amount he received (which has probably already happened).

FSU apparently has avoided discovering evidence of the money Winston received and can play dumb.

Where is Todd going to get the money to pay back what he took from the dealer(s)?

Same place all of these athletes get the money to pay back. A relative who just so happened to recently come into a little extra cash.

Cash is king. He should have denied it from the beginning then. If he was going to lie eventually, why not lie from the start?

I just don't get it.

Uncle Claude just happened to sell his antique (read old and broken) lawn mower for $3000 just last week. He will be happy to help out his favorite nephew.

I think its a positive that he has been held out the last two games. Y'all were able to win both games. That Chubby running back was able to emerge and give y'all depth. Now Gurley returns and he is fresh for the back half of the season. The only negative is that he lost the chances of winning the Heisman.

I feel the same way. Why fess up to anything if there's no video or paper trail?
