Well, let's look at it. Evaluated by realistic projected draft stock.
D-Line:
1st round guys - Nkemdiche/Jones
1st-2nd round - Smith
3rd-4th round - Haynes/Johnson/Brown
LB:
1st round - McKinney
1st-3rd - Bryant/Brown/Brown/Shackleford/Wells
CB:
1st round - Golson
1st-4th - Calhoun/Redmond/Love
S:
1st round - Connor
2nd-4th - Pruitt/Cox/Hughes
There is far and beyond enough draft stock there to make up an NFL defense. It's hard to project the experience that comes with a few years in the league, but nobody ends up with that many high profile guys on the same NFL roster. There are 5 shoe in first round guys between the two teams, on defense alone. And that's me assuming that Smith, the best DE in our conference, doesn't get picked up until the 2nd or 3rd round.

They could all be first rounders and it wouldn't make a difference. A group of 21 year old kids would get destroyed by the men in the NFL. Go back and look at what Chance Warmack has said about the talent difference in the NFL over college.
Make a team out of every defensive first rounder taken last year and you'll see what I'm talking about.
This always used to make me laugh when people would say this about some of our Bama teams on ESPN, that they could beat the Jags or whatever. They would get destroyed.

Stop being mad because no Bama player would crack this starting lineup.

Nobody would ever score on this defense. LSU and Alabama's 2011 defenses would call this one "daddy"
Combine the 2011 LSU and Alabama defenses, then let's talk...

Would love to see how this group stacked up vs the All-Alabama team.
Sims at QB if the game is in Bama. Marshall at QB if the game is on the road.
Gus's offense with Bama RB's and Cooper would be sick.

Yeah that's why I was considering development. Another big issue is it being impossible to predict all the kids that will do well and all the ones that will flop. You can make a damn fine defense out of last years draft, the problem is sorting out the guys that go first/second round and fall on their face.
This is kind of off topic, and I can't really speak for Ole Miss, but I can for Mullen's players. Our guys do really well in the league, if they are good enough to get their foot in. The idea of going after guys that work hard and developing really pays off when they leave. Because in the NFL it's all about putting in your own time, just enough to get by isn't good enough and there is nobody there to make you put in the extra work. In just his first classes, the guys that got picked up are all producing. Jonathan Banks, Darius Slay, Fletcher Cox, Pernell McPhee, Gabe Jackson, Deonte Skinner, KJ Wright, Cameron Lawrence, Chris White, Derek Sherrod, Vick Ballard, Josh Boyd, and hell, Anthony Dixon is currently Buffalo's workhorse. Not to mention guys that made scout teams or are playing primarily backup rolls like Arceto Clark, Chad Bunphis, Ladarius Perkins, Dwayne Cherringtom, etc...
As a state fan, it's really nice seeing us put more kids in the league over the past 5 years than we had in probably the last 15 combined.

Also, I had forgotten about it, but this team is like half of the mid season All-SEC squad. Think it's like 1/5 of the All-American team.
Probably more toward the end of the year when Jones and Wilson climb their way into the list.

A. frick C.J. Johnson
B. Isn't this Shacklefords 8th year to play?

You got the defense perfect except replace Cj Johnson with Haynes. Other than that it would be absolutely unsurpassable. No one would score
