unrelated to the thread but I took a selfie with Finebaum in Oxford this past weekend. He didn't like it.
For real? Story I heard from a UT fan about Joe Tessitore when he called the UT vs Utah St game. Apparently this UT fan spotted Tess, called out to him as he was making his way back to the ESPN bus (think it was a bus) after the game. Fan shouted a word of thanks and praised him. Tessitore turned around, walked up to the fan, shook his hand and thanked him for the kind works.
Tessitore was already my fave broadcaster/game caller but that just raised his stock even higher. This guy really needs to call more games. He's the best out there, imo.

Wait. Did Tennessee seriously discover the idea of using sex appeal to lure in teenage males back in 2009, years before any serious studies were done on the topic? That's...that's brilliant. Given what we now know about the relationship between adolescent hormones and attraction to members of the opposite sex, this plan was absolutely visionary. Visionary, I tell you!
In other news, our former coach demanded all his assistants have hot wives. It's not yet clear whether said wives sexed up the recruits.

Weird, he took a selfie with me and was pretty happy about it (well it was not a real selfie as his assistant actually took the picture)

Did you give him enough warning that he had time to do the perfect duck lips? That's probably what made the difference.

I think he could put it on his wall so he could look better standing next to me. It helps to be handy when you look like me.

No. But Kiffin turned it into a Pimp-Whore thing. And yes, there's a difference. When girls said so and so was doing this or that he wanted them to spend more time with them and take them out more. The implications even from that g-rated telling were clear. He also sent hot girls to HS football games to cheer these guys on and let's not kid ourselves about what they were really there for or what likely happened after those games. Also, IIRC, Bryce Brown was one who was lovestruck by one of the girls.
And I can attest that before Kiffin not all the girls were hotties. Some definitely were but some were normal girls who simply loved Tennessee football or signed up for other reasons. The program was a mixture and from what I saw of the hostesses it looked pretty fair. No ugly ones that I recall but not all hotties either.
Like I said earlier, Kiffin crashed a university leased car full of hot coeds.

It was late and he was on his way to dinner so he was slightly reluctant.. he wasn't a dick about it, he just wasn't overly pleased.

I don't think that word means what you think it means.
Finebaum is an instigator.

It's hard to deny that it's a bit skeevy, I grant. For that matter, Kiffin comes across as a bit skeevy. But I think it's inextricably bound up in the image (not saying it's the reality, but it was certainly the image he cultivated as a HC) of a young head coach who connected with the kids and didn't engage in coach-speak and PC behavior. So actively encouraging a system of hot young women soliciting (in the dictionary definition, not the jurisprudential one) young athletes to the UT program fit with his desired image. I doubt he would even have denied it without the administration telling him to be prudent. He was a proud pimp, as it were, and had no problem trying to engage the recruits on a level that he felt matched that image.
