So the sentiment is that all these players are committing to Stansbury and just ignoring who our head coach is?

That's pretty normal in college basketball. Baylor has landed several elite recruits in the last five years thanks to this phenomenon.

Interesting quote from Elijah Thomas for all you "this is all Stansbury" people:

LINK

quote:

He took trips to all five schools over the past six weeks, but A&M received the final visit and won him over.

"They were the first school to offer me a scholarship," Thomas told ESPN.com. "On my official visit, when I saw their academic system, I loved it. And third, I felt the system, relationship with the committed players, coaches -- especially head coach Billy Kennedy -- and the current players.

"They're a huge family, and I want to be a part of something special. I feel like we can win a national championship my freshman year. That was the deciding factor."

When will you guys accept the fact that the players love BK?

Whether they love him or not, he's a mediocre coach.

Exhibit A: Rice 65, at A&M 57
Exhibit B: Southern 53, at A&M 51
Exhibit C: North Texas 61, at A&M 41

Until Kennedy can keep from completely cratering against a horribly inferior opponent at home in nonconference, I'm not sold.

Coming from a pessimist, let's enjoy this recruiting success BK and his staff are having.

While that is great, none of that will have any effect on THIS season except for the immediate eligibility of Daniel House.

I know. My point is, we have enough negative things fo talk about when it comes to football. Let's be positive towards basketball until we have a reason to bitch about this year's team.

CGSC: I was at all 3 of those games, and the reminder is turning my tasty dinner into indigestion.

Couldn't have been as bad as being at 51-6 and 37-0 in back to back weeks (1999 season).

Honestly I've always thought he had the potential to turn it around, but I'm not convinced this is a turnaround until I see a tournament appearance (more wins)

Short of a miracle, I still don't see a turnaround.

I'm with CGSC on this one. I dont see him winning and getting to the tournament (the real one). Call me crazy, but I think the Rick Stansbury hire was done to eventually replace Billy Kennedy as he steps down to fight Parkinson's.....and we may in fact see him take over late in the season if BK has a disastrous season.

Would have been fine with this happening after last season.

Kennedy is the boss of two guys who know A LOT more about effective basketball coaching than he does, and one of them has an infinitely better resume as a HC.

You know that Cyprien was fired, right?

I just don't think it's possible to win 30 games as a head coach and not know what you're doing.

I haven't actually done the legwork to find out the exact list, but my best guess is it goes something like Wooden, Smith, Krzyzewski, McLendon, Knight, Rupp, Phog Allen, Calhoun, Pinto, Self, Williams, Boheim, Olson, Sutton, and every other national championship coach.

Yes, he was playing for a small school, but each one of those coaches won like that at their respective schools. Bill Self won 30 games at Tulsa. Rick Pinto won 25 games at Providence.

I'm not saying Kennedy is the same as those other coaches, I'm just saying that it's really hard to win 30 games anywhere and Kennedy has done that. Very few coaches have.

And just to point out something else, Kennedy took 5 years at SELA to win 20 games, and won the conference twice. He took 4 years at Murray State to win 20+ games, and won the conference twice, went to the NCAAs, and won 31 games.
