That's Jimmy Sexton being a tPOS and getting Freeze a huge raise

I agree, no offers have been made. Sexton's job is to get his clients as much money as possible. Spreading rumors about job offers is one way to do it.

Hope not. Kiffin was handed a ton of talent at Bama. Don't really want him being the HC and calling the plays.

Disagree. Kiffin inherited a stable of RBs...true, but a first year starter at QB and even though Sims had been there a while....first starter none the less....see UGA's QB for example. He had the offense score points and chewed up opponents with unbelievable amounts of yards. He is also in the discussion as a Broyles Award winner.

As far as HC....that's debatable....but he now isn't the brash kid he once was either. He would be a splash hire imo...he is red hot right now as a coaching commodity. I can forgive for his infamous talk to an alumni club function...those are always about poking sticks at opponents anyway.

A stable of RB's and a really good group of WR's, headlined by Amari Cooper. Let's not pretend Kiffin is a miracle worker of offenses.

How were his offenses as the HC at TN and SC? That's all that would matter.

Answer me this riddle....how in the hell did Bama blast so many folks for over 500-600 yds of offense with a first year starter at QB? Amari needed someone to throw to him I believe?

As far as UT and USC....that's apples to oranges imo because of 1) head coaching duties 2) talent levels and USC being very low on scholly numbers and 3) remember Kiffins tenure at UT being very short and he inherited a broken team and did fire up the masses and then he REALLY fired them up by leaving

Look at Kiffin's WR's at SC when he was a HC.

Robert Woods
Marquise Lee
Nelson Agholar

He has had talent at every spot. The reason I said to look at his O's at those 2 places is because he was the HC then and calling the plays. Same way it would be at UF.

You know Foley isn't letting Freeze sit on an offer where the number is made public. That's not how Foley does things, nor is it how big business happens.

I think Foley vetted and probably reached out to Sexton, then Sexton floated the number knowing Ole Miss would react with a raise and extension.

Oh I completely agree. UF has never and will not have ever "officially" offered Freeze. I was asking more of how yall felt IF it would have happened. Would kind hire would that have been to yall? Good, bad, great, decent.

Looks like Foley is making trip tomorrow to meet with Jim McElwain and we shall see what happens.

He has been impressive with offensive stats at CSU and although the competition is a step below SEC....so is his talent pool.

If Foley wants him....then I want him and will support him. No one should rush to judgment just yet. My main concern is recruiting and at least he is not an older coach and could relate to players/recruits.

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley may be closing in on hiring the Gators' next head football coach.

A source close to situation has confirmed that Foley flew to Fort Collins, Colo., on Tuesday afternoon to interview Colorado State head coach Jim McElwain, who has emerged as a leading candidate to replace Will Muschamp.

If the interview goes well, there could be an announcement coming soon, possibly even as early as tonight, the source said.

There have been numerous reports over the past two days that McElwain has emerged as Foley's No. 1 target. According to the Denver Post, Foley talked with McElwain over the phone Saturday night.

Earlier Tuesday, McElwain was named the coach of the year in the Mountain West Conference

Yup, just saw over on GC that a players meeting is scheduled for CSU. That was quick. The next coach is very very likely Jim McElwain and I'm excited about it. Even the folks on CSU Boards seem to think he's out to UF.

Ive been over to the CSU media guide online and cant copy and paste the bio for JM buts its impressive....29 yrs coaching...52 yrs old and three children.

The thing I liked was the bio on the AD and how they value education and character of student athletes. Foley and Machen have a mandate on how players should behave off the field....and we need to stop the stupid PFs on the field.

We may have our coach.

Agreed, Muschamp appears to have done a great job cleaning up the program and I'll be glad that the new coach continues that trend. The only thing is he ran a conservative offense with Saban at Bama which may be a problem with some fans at the start until he gets rolling the way he wants the offense to.

I'm optimistic. I think even with those leaving for the draft, UF can still have a goal of going to Atlanta next year and have a good chance of getting there.

From local Ft Collins newspaper....a statement from former AD at CSU

EMAILMORE

The $7.5 million buyout in Jim McElwain’s contract isn’t as firm as it might appear, former athletic director Jack Graham told the Coloradoan.

There’s a provision that allows CSU President Tony Frank to reduce or eliminate the fee for “extenuating circumstances,” should McElwain voluntarily step down as CSU’s football coach before his five-year contract is up.

Numerous reports coming out Florida and local blogs the past two days have suggested that Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley, who visited McElwain in Fort Collins on Tuesday, is trying to negotiate a reduction in the buyout, possibly by agreeing to play a nonconference game against the Rams at a future date. Colorado State University earned $1.5 million for playing a game last year at Alabama.

Former CSU athletic director Jack Graham, who drafted the contract extension that McElwain signed June 6, said he wouldn’t be surprised if there is a discussion taking place about reducing the buyout fee that he believed was a critical component of the deal.

The buyout was meant to serve as a deterrent to other schools who might want to hire McElwain away. The contract, Graham said, was structured to guarantee McElwain $15 million over a 10-year period with the opportunity to earn substantially more based upon the performance of the CSU football team. McElwain could earn as much as $2.5 million annually for the duration of his contract if CSU were to be selected as one of the 12 teams participating in one of the six College Football Playoff bowl games. He could earn $2.75 million if the Rams were to win a CFP playoff game.

Graham said the contract was designed so that McElwain would be able to capture a substantial amount of his market value without having to leave CSU. The tradeoff was he had to agree to the $7.5 million breakup fee or five times his salary at the time of his resignation.

It was “irresponsible,” Graham said, to guarantee McElwain $15 million over a 10-year period without getting a substantial breakup fee in return.

“Unfortunately in the meeting back in June during which Mac, Tony Frank and I were to sign Mac’s employment agreement, Tony agreed to reduce if not eliminate the breakup fee if a ‘dream job’ were to come along,” Graham said Tuesday. “Mac’s attorney asked me a number of times if we would carve out Alabama and other top head football coaching jobs from the breakup fee, and I declined to do so.

“I reminded his attorney that the whole purpose of the new employment agreement was to give Mac an opportunity to make a lot of money based on his performance and to give him real security in the form of a 10-year agreement. In exchange, Mac had to agree to a break-up fee that would make it very difficult for him to leave CSU for any other university. I felt it was essential that we do all we could to reduce or eliminate that risk.

“Too often coaches have treated CSU like a stepping stone. The self-esteem issues that creates are very real, and I wanted that to go away. I believed it was essential to our future.

But the attorney persisted, Graham said:

“Mac’s attorney asked Tony if he would agree to waive the breakup fee if the ‘dream job’ were to come along — his attorney wasn’t getting the answer he wanted from me.

“Unfortunately, during the signing meeting, Tony said yes. I was terribly disappointed in Tony’s decision to agree to that request. It left the door open for people to go after Mac.

“… Protecting CSU from schools like Florida going after Mac is exactly why we put the breakup fee into his employment agreement. After the 2013 season ended, I foresaw a year like our 2014 season coming, and I wanted to lock up Mac before this year’s season began to protect us from this sort of thing.

“With Tony verbally committing to work with Mac to reduce or eliminate the buyout....

Sounds as if McElwain had a smart attorney
