Those that know of me, you know I have been a huge WM supporter sense he has been at UF. Personality wise, I'm not sure there's a more likable guy out there in the world of coaching. Champ is just a good dude. With that being said, all good times must come to an end. For me, the final straw was the Mizzou game.

With that in mind, I wanted to start this thread for everyone to post all their thoughts on coaches who could be potential candidates. Instead of making tons of threads about it, let's use this one.

Go Gators!

My Top 5 candidates in no particular order.

Brian Kelly
Hugh Freeze
Rich Rodriguez
Gary Patterson
Jim Mora Jr.

3 with offensive backgrounds and 2 with defensive. The 2 with defensive backgrounds have always put a heavy emphasis on offense though. Outside of Rich Rod, Kelly and Freeze put emphasis on D. Biggest worry for me about Rich Rod is he insist on playing a 3-3-5. Not sure about that in the SEC.

I think it's pretty clear that we need someone with head coaching experience. I have a hard time believing Foley would go the coordinator route with the failed Zook and Muschamp experiments under his belt. So, that means no Chad Morris and no other cute, trendy darkhorse candidates that message board gurus want to nominate.

REALISTIC candidates:

Rich Rodriguez

He had 3 consecutive lights out years at WVU. His only losing season in Morgantown was his first year 3-8 (1-6 Big East). The next year he produced a Big East record turnaround and went 9-4 (6-1 Big East, the lone conf defeat to #1 Miami).

Gary Patterson

Yes, he's been at TCU for 15+ years. However, he admittedly considers overtures from other schools.

Larry Fedora

Familiar with the Gators, has never had a losing record as a head coach at Southern Miss or UNC, great recruiter, and offensive mind. Maybe a "fall back" candidate if bigger names decline.

you guys should take the risk that comes with Mike Leach...he would be a great SEC coach if given the opportunity...im being sincere...if not Leach...Dan Mullen should be offered whatever is in the vault in Gainesville...

You can scratch Freeze off that.

He's not going anywhere any time soon.

I'm on team Rich Rod.

I highly doubt McNeil will be considered.

He will be courted early, so you never know. I know he's a Miss guy, but Foley is more likely to inquire about him than Mullen.

I doubt Mullen even gets a postcard.

The thing about Freeze is he's one of the most genuinely honest people I've ever seen when it comes to coaches. He said Ole Miss was his destination job and I believe it. You've got to remember, he left SDSU because his family wasn't happy there.

That being said, Foley would be daft not to try.

Someone suggested Mike Leach, and Mizzou fans have some knowledge of playing Leach teams. He would be an interesting coach in the SEC, but unless he learns to value a defense he would struggle to find sustained success. I think he's a better fit in the PAC, where he is. I liked Leach and think he got a raw deal at TTU. I just don't see him at Florida.

His pirate personna would be hilarious there though.

Patterson would be a good choice.

I know you aren't talking about me, but i have suggested tPirate multiple times. The Big 12 and PAC are different animals when it comes to defense and i think he would know that. I'm pretty sure he could hire a decent DC and his offense would wreck shop with Florida athletes.

Leach has always been at schools that don't give him the ability to hire the better assistants out there. With the money at UF he would not have that problem.

Would hate it if UF hired Leach.

Take Hugh Freeze of the list for me how do you not kick that FG.

Gary Patterson I think is on the top of the list right now.
