Downtown has so much potential but always fail. Living in Tigerland, I am trying to figure how I survived. There was nothing Villa about that Franchie.

Campus a B? Only thing I disagree with. The stately oaks didn't impress? The Spanish motif? The campus wasn't built around flash and bling like the athletic facilities.

Downtown: C-

When you come to Baton Rouge you come for LSU football and nothing else. There were a couple cool places along a four-block strip on 3rd Street, but they barely covered up the eye sores surrounding the place. More often than not were lots filled with deteriorating buildings from hurricane damage, never repaired. It doesn’t help that this area of the Mississippi is what you consider “industrious.”

Downtown’s saving grace was the bayou marching band taking over the streets to kick off the night.

College Bars: F

The place to-be for LSU students is Tigerland. The depressing slab of concrete in the middle of nowhere has an exterior reminiscent of the Emporium from Dazed and Confused, making the college bar feel more like an outdated honkytonk. We lasted in “Mike’s” for all of 25 minutes before the DJ contest forced us out. Two Keys doesn’t seem so bad after all.

I would agree to that assesment. Hopefully the Nicholson Corridor spurs the development of a new bar district and continued improvement of downtown BR with the streetcar coming. He should have gone to Bogies.

By far the most beautiful part of town, the scenery is pristine (and I’m not just talking about the women). Surrounded by lakes, a golf course and beautiful homes, it doesn’t feel like you’re downwind from a smelly Mississippi River. It was close to 85 degrees at 4:00. The humidity might have made it miserable, but there are few spaces on campus that aren’t shaded by massive oak trees.

smelly MS river, wtf did he expect a trickling stream running through the mountains. Its the 3rd largest river in the world that drains 2/3rds of the continental US. That is alot of yankee sewage.

Where LSU’s campus lacks is their school buildings. Their athletic facilities shine like a silver dollar, but their classroom buildings look about as bad, if not worse, than UK before the Capilouto facelift. In addition to the aging buildings, they’re very spread out. Combine the two, and I would never go to class.

While I will agree that the older parts of campus are in need of a good renovation and the "modern corridor" of campus looks like a microwaved dog turd. The Italian Renaissance look is beautiful and LSU's quad (minus Middleton, they really need to blow that thing up and start over) looks as good as of the SEC schools.

ETA: overall I would give that review a B

I think the older building on campus are beautiful. That was really the only part I disagreed with.

I love the campus at LSU. It is unique. But, UK is going through a billion dollar renovation projects on campus. It is incredible to see UK today vs when I went to school.

Oh, the river and the vet school does smell. There was a saying in athletics about the smell...you knew when it was a doggie and cat BBQ firing up at the vet school to rid of the dead and the Exxon plant is running.

The smell isn't the river there is waste plant in the hood down river road. Nothing worse than running the levee and getting the hit with that smell.

Isn't that getting taken out with the addition of the water campus?

Very fair assessment. And hopefully downtown is starting to get revitalized. With IBM about to open and hopefully more companies buying properties, it will continue to improve (it is already much better than it was 10-15 years ago). But one correction

More often than not were lots filled with deteriorating buildings from hurricane damage,

I promise you that the condition of some of the buildings downtown is not because of hurricane damage.
