I remember thinking the entire admin, coaches, players, team doctors, laundry people and the players professors should have been fired after the terrible loss to southern miss in Dubose's final season; that's how bad that game was.

Yeah, 2011 was pretty pitiful, but they never quit really. 2012 the team just decided to stop playing.

It unfortunately comes usually right before a coach is fired. There is no way we will fire Sumlin after this year though unless some really bad off the field shite happens as well. He may have to do some serious house cleaning in the off season to salvage this

I am not sure how much worse the off the field stuff could get for A&M. They clearly quit Saturday. How they respond will tell the tale? If they bounce back it will be a step toward repair if not it will likely define Sumlin.

I worried during the CGC era at Auburn that the off the field stuff was evidence of a lack of respect for him and the staff. In 2012 that was proven true. I have never been more embarrassed of Auburn as I was during the 2012 season.

I'm familiar enough with Gus' whole tenure to know that his boys have never done it to him, that's why I didn't mention it in the OP.

I consider him an elite coach, tho. He just doesn't have the tenure of the other three.

Oddly we won a bowl game in 2011 (largely because Gus ran his offense the way he wanted) and it started the chant that 2012 was the year our talent would grow up.

They didn't give up. They wanted chizik gone. period, so they gave up...if that makes sense. but yeah. 2012 was bad.

yeah I feel ya. I just assumed Sumlin would have enough #swag to offset deficiencies in all other areas.

The Shula poisoned seniors quit on Saban mid-way through the 2007 season.

There were some individual players that quit, but the team didn't.

The bulk of that losing streak (including the infamous ULM game) happened when Caldwell, Coffee, Marquis Johnson, and others got suspended for textbookgate. I seriously doubt they get Croomed or lose to ULM with those guys on the field.

ETA: They did quit on DuBose and I can't say I blame them.

that's because the Keil Fraizer era had begun...who knew we'd see all the highlights of it in one game?

The kid is the poster child for what was wrong with Auburn football. He likely in a more stable environment would have developed into a decent mature SEC QB or at least a good career back up.

Really? Did you ever see him try to throw a football? He was broken before he ever got to Auburn. The fact that Auburn couldn't fix him doesn't mean there was a problem with Auburn football.

he had all the physical talent to win. He was literally ruined by the circumstances around him. Sadly he never bounced back from the mental distress and he only had a small window to do so anyway.

I feel for that guy to this day because he was a good qb before chiz happened to him.

that 2007 bama team peaked against us and still fell short in a stomach turning game, rock bottom from there. looking back, probably a good thing no?

He had arm strength. His issues were mental. The game never slowed down for him. He had some flashes of talent and is doing well now at a smaller school.

according to players, he was very introvert and lacked a voice. no one believed he could get it done, so they didnt follow

yeah I am not sure why 1/9 keeps popping up

if the TEAM gave up that score board would have been much worse.

I would be more inclined to point to the Auburn game this year before ever resorting to that one.

THE LAST CORPS TRIP
It was Judgment Day in Aggieland
And tenseness filled the air;
All knew there was a trip at hand,
But not a soul knew where.

Assembled on the drill field
Was the world-renowned Twelfth Man,
The entire fighting Aggie team
And the famous Aggie Band.

And out in front with Royal Guard
The reviewing party stood;
St. Peter and his angel staff
Were choosing bad from good.

First he surveyed the Aggie team
And in terms of an angel swore,
“By Jove, I do believe I’ve seen
This gallant group before.

I’ve seen them play since way back when,
And they’ve always had the grit;
I’ve seen ‘em lose and I’ve seen ‘em win,
But I’ve never seen ‘em quit.

No need for us to tarry here
Deciding upon their fates;
Tis plain as the halo on my head
That they’ve opened Heaven’s gates.”

And when the Twelfth Man heard this,
They let out a mighty yell
That echoed clear to Heaven
and shook the gates of Hell.

“And what group is this upon the side,”
St. Peter asked his aide,
“That swelled as if to burst with pride
When we our judgment made?”

“Why, sir, that’s the Cadet Corps
That’s known both far and wide
For backing up their fighting team
Whether they won, lost or tied.”

“Well, then,” said St. Peter,
“It’s very plain to me
That within the realms of Heaven
They should spend eternity.

And have the Texas Aggie Band
At once commence to play
For their fates too we must decide
Upon this crucial day.”

And the drum major so hearing
Slowly raised his hand
And said, “Boys, let’s play The Spirit
For the last time in Aggieland.”

And the band poured forth the anthem
In notes both bright and clear
And ten thousand Aggie voices
Sang the song they hold so dear.

And when the band had finished,
St. Peter wiped his eyes
And said, “It’s not so hard to see
They’re meant for Paradise.”

And the colonel of the Cadet Corps said
As he stiffly took his stand,
“It’s just another Corps Trip, boys,
We’ll march in behind the band.”

Damn right, son.

Kenny,

Please do us a favor and sit your arse down next Sat. Fake a groin pull or just tell Sumlin you've lost your edge, I don't care.

Thanks,

Aggie alums everywhere.
