Only one other time have I been embarrassed of my football team, and I'm pretty sure y'all can guess when that was. As an athlete, I had some close friends on the football team back in my day. Consensus was that Fran didn't have any respect in the locker room.

I can't recall Saban, Miles, Richt, or any other elite coach's team giving up on him like they did on Sumlin. I have no reason to believe he isn't respected, but after the game on Saturday I can't help but think that might be the case.

Is there any way a coach can recover from this?

Yes, croom's last game,
Ole Miss 45-0 could have hung 70 on us if they wanted.

Saban's teams are the biggest front-runners going. Look at his 2007 campaign (lost four straight to conclude the season). Thankfully, he avoids it for the most part. The problem with the lofty projections though is he gets got by the Utahs and Big Game Bobs of the world when his teams aren't near the top of the mountain.

Yes, the entire 2000 season, though they still whipped the piss out of Ole Miss.

We don't now thank God. It has happened in the last few years though.

The offense quit on Dubose midway through the 2000 season.

The Shula poisoned seniors quit on Saban mid-way through the 2007 season.

Only two times I can remember.

I think it was because Gus's team quit on him in 2011, and he got fired (or scapegoated into leaving, if you don't think he was fired for some reason) by Chizik. Think of the irony there.

You're probably right, but still getting beat by that bad arky team by 3 scores just didn't feel like a lot of effort.

During the game maybe but not in 2012, LSU went 10-2 regular season. not sure we "gave up" after that loss. Horrible example to the OP's question.

I don't think the 2011 team ever quit. We just weren't very good.

They didn't give up. They wanted chizik gone. period, so they gave up...if that makes sense.

but yeah. 2012 was bad.

It unfortunately comes usually right before a coach is fired. There is no way we will fire Sumlin after this year though unless some really bad off the field shite happens as well. He may have to do some serious house cleaning in the off season to salvage this
