Shane Ray is the best defensive player in the country. Let me repeat. Shane Ray is THE BEST defensive player in the country.

Our defense can win games on it's own. If our defense plays to that level we can compete with any one. (I won't say beat anyone because of my next point)

Maty Mauk needs to be benched. Any other coaching staff in the nation would make the move. If Mauk struggles in the next game, regardless of the score, it is time to see Printz or even Berk.

If you would have said that 4 years ago you would be kicked off this site for being a troll. But it is true !!! For his utter lack of knowing how to get a team ready for a running attack like Auburn's or Navy's Coach Steck has gotten the defense SEC ready.

neva eva.

Also I don't think we need to bench Mauk, but we need to let Eddie toss the rock a few times. We shall call it the Jon Jay, Peter Gourjos effect.

How in the hell does Ray not get SEC Def. Player of the week, and how does the AL punter get Sp. Teams Player over Murphy???

Not dumb, just Don James Old School. I kinda think Saban would be the same way.

The second one is a head-scratcher for sure.

Marcus Murphy is the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week and Shane Ray is, again, the league's D-lineman of the week

I would take Golden over Ray. This is for a few reasons:

1) Golden still getting Ray 1v1 opportunities and Golden is only about 70% right now.
2) Golden is better vs the run overall. He isn't as good at chasing down the line as Ray but is still a beast when teams run right at him.
3) Golden can both speed rush and run right over an OL.

Teams appear to scheme more towards stopping Golden, even recently. This is despite Golden's bad hammy which is still hurting him. You could see it when Golden is walking around the sidelines and he has a big wrap on that leg. The fact he is playing at that level while being that hurt is amazing.

I'm not going to debate your reasoning but all of the "experts" (yeah a little tongue and cheek) don't agree; they have Ray much higher.

Personally I'd like to have both for another year.

maybe not a big deal but Golden looks like he could play either up in a 4-3 or back in a 3-4, while Ray looks more like a 3-4 Backer.

Golden is the football equivalent of baseball's 5 tool player.
