What's tHogRant's take on AC3's recent struggles? Seems like it's more of a mental lull than something physically bothering him. The butter fingers and at times lack of that trademark shiftiness and vision... I dunno. Seems like something is up with him - maybe something personal? Maybe it's a known problem and I'm just unaware because I'm old and out of touch.

Just hasn't had it the past couple weeks. JWill is the more physical runner and that's what is gonna get the yards when the o-line isn't performing on the level they have been. I wonder if it's the weight that AC3 put on. On one hand he's much harder to bring down than he was last year, but he's lost a bit of the shiftiness.

All in all I'm not worried about him though. JWill is just the better RB and it's showing against great run defenses.

I also think his weight gain experiment hasn't worked out so far. He looks like he lost quickness.

This was my line of thinking, mostly just because it seemed his head wasn't in the Bama game at all. He herp derped a field position TD to Bama and was pretty much done after that. He didn't seem nearly as out of it against Georgia but was still fairly ineffective.

nah

he's a better overall back because of the added weight and it's not an experiment. it's the way he's gonna have to play at the next level as a more durable back, compared to the alex collins that came in that would go down from a slap on the back. this is just his first year playing at that weight so it's obviously going to take some getting used to after he'd played at a lesser weight his whole life. next year he should be a monster with more time in the weight room and more experience playing at that weight.

also I'll take bert's vision for what a running back should be over a lot of internet coaches

Collins' assets are his shiftiness and ability to recognize the hole as it develops and quickly cut to it, and the weight gain seems to have zapped his acceleration from the point where he sees it develop. I'm seeing a ton of carries where he's hit at the line of scrimmage after switching directions and/or making a jump cut, and last year he would've taken most of those for positive yardage. Who knows if our offensive line isn't giving him the push or if his weight gain has had an adverse effect.

He's had ball handling issues in key situations.

He looks like he may be playing with an injury to me. In the first two or three games, I thought he looked just as quick and agile as last year. It seems like he's moving and cutting a lot slower now.

Why, none of us have lost 12 conference games in a row?

he likes women too much to concentrate on football. Mike Jones that played for the hogs basketball team back in the early 2000's is my older first cousin. same deal with him. never came close to his potential because he couldn't wait to get out of practice to go kick it with some girl or girls or go to a party or whatever.

the talent is there but he doesn't want it bad enough.

I've been a fan of Alex for a long time (I met him when he was a recruit), and I found him to be extremely respectful and well spoken in my interactions with him. He just came across as a likeable, high quality guy.

That being said, the above post is pretty close to everything I've heard. He's a freaking lady's man and stays extremely distracted by them. It's not like he's out thugging and popping Molly or anything with them, but he just likes to chase the cat to put it in Pfunk terms.

He's a really social guy. When he visited here on his Spring Break, he was like instantly the most popular guy at Fayetteville High. Whether this will turn out to limit his career in the longterm or not remains to be seen, but I think that's a large part of his problems.

You can have all the women in the world or you can a 10 year NFL career as a RB, but you can't have both. he's not that talented to skate by on sheer athletic ability. he's got put some work in.

wonder how much of his problems with his mom play into that. if her stealing his signing papers on signing day doesn't scream issues I don't know what does

Lulz. The guys that have a 10 year NFL career pretty much do have all the women that they want.
And, as a RB, there is a good chance he won't have a 10 year career anyways, so why not chase some tail while you're at it?
