I don't understand how Alabama has a senior starting QB that "can't read defenses." That's kind of embarrassing. It's not rocket science.

It's not at all embarrassing, and it's perfectly understandable when you consider that Saban generally doesn't believe in getting his backup QB any meaningful snaps. Coming into the year, Sims had never taken a snap that wasn't in garbage time. You're not gonna get any real practice at reading defenses that way.

I always hear about Saban and how he doesn't give our backup QBs any meaningful reps... My question is: are there really any coaches that do this? I mean, in what situation do you give the backup to a healthy starter meaningful, non garbage time snaps?

Not trying to be a naysayer, but I'm kind of confused. I get that it's ideal to let them run the full offense, but he Let AJ run it when he was a backup, and as far as I could see, he let Blake run it last year.

I don't agree with OP and I'm happy with Blake's play for the most part but I will say his checks at the line haven't been that great. I'm pretty sure he's checked a run directly into a blitz on more than one occasion.

That being said, I really wish we had another year of him at QB, because I think with a little more experience he would have been the best QB in Bama history, as far as stats go. His arm strength and accuracy have repeatedly shocked me this year, not to mention his running ability.

We can still win the 'ship with him this year.

It's a little of both. Blake checked twice early in the first quarter against A&M. Then, on the Coop post fade for a TD, Lane checked off the original call and signaled the post fade call in to Blake. Very sutle signal but effective nonetheless. The result was a TD.

I think we will see more and more of Lane signaling in checks moving forward. Anything that will help the QB out I am all for. And if Blake does check off and run in to a blitz... he did that as well against A&M... I think we will see him being pulled back from checking even more. Lane knows the offense better than anyone. Why not let him put Blake in the best position to make the play.

His checks scare me sometimes. He is truly hit and miss and when he misses it really really ain't good.

Yeah, I feel with another year we could really do damage next year. Every game would be like a home game.
