The Air Force’s secretive X-37B spy plane has returned to Earth after nearly two years circling the globe.
“The 30th Space Wing and our mission partners, Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office, Boeing, and our base support contractors, have put countless hours of hard work into preparing for this landing and today we were able to see the culmination of that dedication,” Col. Keith Balts, 30th Space Wing commander, said in press release Friday.
The X-37B last entered orbit Dec. 12, 2012, and spent the next two years 180 miles above the planet, NBC reported.
Makes one wonder what technology is out there, that isn't divulged and known about. I remember when the SR71 was outed and it was jaw dropping to folks. Only to find out it was about 25 yr old tech at the time it was made public.

Looks like a cheap shuttle and you know how old that tech is.

If we're reading about it, it's about to be retired.

Actually saw this fly over the Tucson Arizona area this morning. Was wondering what it was as I had never seen anything like it.

I might've seen it couple times.

So that's what really capped Kennedy from the gassy knoll.

And those dumb Russians think they could beat us in a nuclear war. They'd never get the first ICBM off the ground.

The Air Force said there is no link to this obviously photoshopped picture and there is no such thing as a secret spy plane that has circled the Earth the last 2 yrs, dwi.
eta- It was unmanned for the duration of it's flight. I suspect those folks are just protecting themselves from the obvious contamination from hostile alien life that attached itself to the outside of the craft.

It really is amazing and there is no telling what our current cutting edge military tech can do.
The SR-71 was ridiculously badass, even by today's standards and that thing was flying missions back in the 60's, 20 years before we even knew it existed. At Mach 3.

The first flight of an SR-71 took place on 22 December 1964, at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, California.[62] The SR-71 reportedly reached a top speed of Mach 3.4 during flight testing.[63][verification needed] The first SR-71 to enter service was delivered to the 4200th (later, 9th) Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, California, in January 1966.[64]

The SR-71 was the world's fastest and highest-flying operational manned aircraft throughout its career. On 28 July 1976, SR-71 serial number 61-7962, broke the world record: an "absolute altitude record" of 85,069 feet (25,929 m).[9][81][82][83] Several aircraft have exceeded this altitude in zoom climbs, but not in sustained flight.[9] That same day SR-71, serial number 61-7958, set an absolute speed record of 1,905.81 knots (2,193.2 mph; 3,529.6 km/h), approximately Mach 3.3.[9][83]

Merely accelerating would typically be enough to evade a surface-to-air missile,[2] and the plane was faster than the Soviet Union's principal interceptor, the MiG-25.[23] During its service life, no SR-71 was shot down.[4]

We are good at killing people and spying on them. Anything else? Not so much....

And to think - all that was built with a slide rule.
