Had Petrino not been fired, do you think they would be undefeated? Petrino had UPig playing a championship level ball. Hard to say but it looks like firing him instead of suspending him may have cost them a natty.

About where we are now or worse. His last two recruiting classes were bad, very bad.

I thought he never recruited well the whole time there? He was an excellent coach just a bad person.

Regardless of the talent he was recruiting, he could get his players to play above their caliber. The system made the players and I'd be willing to bet Brandon Allen would be 10x better than what he is now had he played under Petrino.

However, we would still be hot garbage on defense. In the long run, firing him was better.

Coaching can make up for recruiting. Loot at MSU. I think Arkansas would have won 10 games at least once in the last couple seasons.

he was never going to be better than 2nd or 3rd in the west. he couldn't put together a decent defense and the in state talent was getting tired of him.

it was a rough divorce and the fallout terrible, but worth it in the long run.

We'd be in much worse shape. Bert has better assistants, he's recruiting better, attrition is minimal now, gpa is up, academic risks are gone, team chemistry is good, they are playing hard and not quitting and giving up, defense is playing better fundamentally, secondary is light years better, we'd be getting blown out by everyone instead of being he tougher more physical team that is letting wins slip away because of our depth issues.

Bobby Petrino is a really good coach but he has a flaw or two that will most likely keep him a brick or two short of a full load in regards to ever winning a NC anywhere. But he will have some really good teams.

No, Brandon Allen wouldn't cut it in a passing offense. The talent isn't there.

His first class in 2008 might have been the best in-state class we ever had (coupled with Mallett transferring from UM), and they all stayed home. The next year was pretty good, and it was downhill from there.

He's a great coach, but he can't evaluate talent or character (shocker!) for shite. We had a horrendous attrition rate with our 2010 and 2011 classes -- something like 40 of those kids never made it to campus, washed out, got kicked off, transferred, or just never got on the field. Only 9 kids from the 2010 class played out their eligibility here and something like only 7 signees from 2011 are still on the roster.

That's why last year we started 2 true freshmen on the OL, a true freshman RB, a true freshman TE, a true freshman LB, two walk-on seniors at LB, and a freshman at practically every secondary spot. But no, 0-8 was because Bert is a terrible coach and not because of any of that amiright?

There's a reason shite tends to fall apart fast the minute he leaves somewhere.

Well he DID piss off a bunch of Texas high school coaches with some recruiting nonsense, but he definitely was the best coach they've had in the last 25 years. He's a lot like Sumlin in some ways with his genius for offensive intellect, quarterback developing but not so much on the other side of the ball. The season he got canned was supposed to be "the year". And 2012, I think they could've hit double digits in the win column but the fallout was too great, and John L. Smith just sucked arse as a head coach.

This right here.

Petrino couldn't hire good assistants (see Ellis Johnson), had a horrible attrition rate that was killing our APR (we were on the border of getting a bowl ban because of it), was a bad recruiter, and quite literally did not care about defense. I use the word "literally" because the sold purpose of our defense in practice was to serve as the Washington Generals to the offense's Harlem Globetrotters, and Petrino would scream at defensive players if they tackled a ball carrier or broke up a pass in practice.

Also, with regard to recruiting, the position he hired his girlfriend for was a legitimate, on-campus recruiting position. He wasn't even trying.

Brandon Allen would have at least 10 concussions by now, ruining the rest of his life.

Arkansas certainly wouldn't be in the middle of a 15 game SEC losing streak with Petrino.

Short Term - In 2012, they go 12-1 or 11-2. Petrino couldn't beat Bama and might have lost in an epic shootout to A&M, but that's it. In 2013, they take a step back due to loss of offensive talent, but still manage to at least beat Florida, both Mississippi schools and LSU. 8-5 at worst.

Long Term - There is no long term with Bobby Petrino. Based on that fact alone, they are better off with Bert. Realistically, Bert should be 5-1 in his last 6 SEC games dating back to last year.

Bert stops blowing 4th quarter leads and then the SEC's longest conference losing streak belongs to Vandy, cause we aren't winning one any time soon.

Petrino had one good season. A season where the team caught breaks and played above their heads. I think Arkansas wouldn't have had two losing seasons, but I imagine they would have finished 8-4 9-3 most years.

Lol wat?

He won 10 games and went to the Sugar Bowl in 2010, then won 11 games the next year and went to (and won) the Cotton Bowl. 2011 was the year we caught all the breaks and played above our heads.

Whatever happened to the LB from New Jersey that was the star of the last recruiting class of Petrino?

Arkansas would be around the bottom of the SEC if he was still here. People would be starting to call for his head also. His firing would have made Nutt's a side show. I think Stephen's would have dug something up and made it quite entertaining.
