University of Mississippi Mascot/Nickname Question

butthurt ... trolling ... etcetera.
OK, with all the obligatory name-calling out of the way, I actually have a semi-serious question for the Rebels. (It may not be especially serious, but I am genuinely curious).
Y'all officially changed your mascot a few years ago from "Colonel Rebel" to "Rebel, the Brown Bear." (I still like Admiral Akbar as the alternate mascot. One of the best f.u. student responses to Administration nonsense that I have seen.)
As I understand it, the new mascot was selected in a campus-wide "election" that bore a close resemblance to what China is doing in Hong Kong ... "Sure, you get to vote, but only amongst OUR pre-selected options and without including anything that you actually LIKE on the list."
But you retained "Rebels" as your official nickname, correct?
So y'all have a mascot that seems to have no connection whatsoever to your team nickname.
To be clear, I am not slamming you for this. "Reveille" is our mascot, and she doesn't seem to have much in common with either agriculture or the military
So, how is the fanbase adjusting to the change? I know that it was very unpopular when it was done, but has that changed or is it changing?
Setting aside the physical mascot, the nickname "Rebels" still has the (perceived?) stigma associated with its origins in the Civil War. Has there been any move to change the nickname as well?

After a team whips your arse, you usually leave them alone, right?

We've adjusted well so far... We're undefeated and we're the team to beat in an absolutely loaded SEC West.

We are the Ole Miss Rebels. We have a black bear as a mascot for the kids on the sidelines, just as your have Reveille. That is all, we did not change our name and the bear is not even marketed. The alumni are split, but most just don't care anymore. There has been no push to remove the Rebel nickname, yet.

The frick does that have anything to do with the mascot?

Look, I expected a lot of childish responses. You aspiring Hawkings are not bothering me.
A bit more context might provide some insight into my question.
The TAMU administration terminate the on-campus Bonfire after the Collapse. They did it for arguably-valid reasons. But the response amongst students and alumni was to organize an off-campus Bonfire with no official ties to the University.
By analogy, do many/most Mississippi supporters still think in terms of the Colonel, rather than the Bear?

She is the highest ranking member of the corps of cadets. Basically, the University realizes that a dog is the most capable leader at its school. In any event, she clearly has much in common with the military insofar as she's in it.

At home games, you would see at least half of all tailgates featuring some sort of col. Reb memorabilia.
Never seen a single thing showing the bear.

Nope, we are still and will continue to be the Rebels.
Rebel the Black Bear is for the kids and marketing only.
