Can't quote it on my phone, but I just read a tweet that Braden Smith practiced with the first team at LG today. Thoughts?

I think it was because a lot of guys were resting.

If Chad Slade is the guy rotating out then it is net positive

Coaches said they'd eventually get him more regular playing time. Our line was drilled by STATE. That d-line is nasty but something has to start clicking or we will have a tough time with the remaining schedule. They may be hoping he is the answer. If the line is going to be bad anyways, I would rather get new guys game experience.

That makes sense. Couldn't hurt to give him a shot at this point, though.

We also seem to have a logjam at OT next year. He may end up there and having experience for him + returning Kozan would be huge for Dampeer being a new OC starter

Seems to me guard is more important to our run game so I'm all for Hulk moving inside.

Young players will be getting a lot of reps the next couple of days.

in a very brief twitter discussion with Cubelic (who honestly I'm not a fan of but he's better than he used to be IMO), it appears that some of the OL simply have gotten comfortable with their starting jobs and don't feel like anyone will take their jobs from them. This is why I feel something like this and Danzey coming on strong is HUGE for our OL moving forward.

While the OL hasn't come close to the level set by the 2013 group, to say it's been bad is an exaggeration. We're average right now. The fact that the 2013 group dominated makes the 2014 group look worse than it actually is.

But I do agree... if we don't play better, we're in for some trouble in our remaining games. OM, UGA, and bama have very good front sevens... and A&Ms Garrett is a monster.

At least for A&M, we can just scheme away from Garrett. Rest of the DL is hot garbage.

I think Danzey has done well considering he wasn't slotted to start. If we could get someone above average at the other OG, we should be solid going forward. Takes time for the OL to gel together but I think the talent to at least be "good" is there

Slade has been playing RG since the start of the LSU game.

Slightly OT but has any one heard how Kozan is progressing in his rehab?

Doesn't mean Danzey can't rotate to RG. I think Smith played LG in HS (E prob knows), and it may be his dominant side

One of the Rivals guys just let it loose that there is the possibility of the shift looking like

LT- Coleman
LG- B.Smith
OC- RD
RG- Avery Young
RT- Patrick Miller

I would actually feel pretty good about that as far as run blocking. PMiller isn't an elite run blocker but AY/PM is better than Slade/Young

Miller is average at run blocking and AY is solid. We could make things happen running both ways.

ETA: I also suspect that Braden Smith would be solid at pulling and we may end up pulling the guards more with Young &Smith since both seem to be athletic enough

That was Braden Smith's specialty in high-school.

This will certainly bring more athleticism on the field, but I don't really like all of this flip-flopping right now.

If Alex Kozan wasn't hurt, we could simply plug Braden Smith into Chad Slade's position and I would feel much more comfortable.

I like the idea of changing things up. Our OL is the weak link this year. Secure that, and we'll be fine.
