If you were Kiffin, how would you have called the Arky game?

I've heard a lot of complaints from bama fans about Kiffin's play calling thus far. I get it. Our offense has looked downright offensive at times, but I am not sure that is entirely his fault. In 2012 and 2013 it was clear what we needed to do differently in the games we struggled. In 2012 you run the ball against Aggie all four downs and make them stop you. In 2013 you pass against Auburn's weak secondary and run against OU's weak front. I'm having a hard time figuring out what I would do differently with this team.

Hypothetical: You had to game plan for Arkansas. What would you do differently?

Only requirements are that you must use a rattled Blake Sims, a wet ball, and you have to play with the players' strengths and weaknesses as they are, not how you want them to be. For example, if you would plan more plays where OJ Howard is the hot read then you have to acknowledge that he may have quite a few drops. If you plan to focus more on Cooper then you also have to acknowledge that he will likely be double-covered.

Lot's of screens and draws.

ETA: quick completions to get WR's and RB's in the game and get Blake's confidence up, take some of the pressure of the OL. I'd put the money on our skill players over their's because we didn't match up well in the trenches.

Agree. I think defenses are doing everything they can to contain Blake within the pocket. With the OL struggling, screens can go a lond way to helping out.

The only thing I would've done differently is running the ball a bit more to the left side of our O-line...we consistently ran it to the right side and consistently got stuffed. Don't know if it would've made that big a difference, but that's all I got...

I don't know why we didn't throw a billion quick screens like we did at the beginning of the year because this was a great game for it. It would've given Sims a chance to settle in with some easy throws and hidden the fact that our offensive line couldn't block anybody. That said, I hate criticizing play-calling because we don't know what the game plan was all week, if Saban has his hand in it, and frankly exactly how healthy Sims may or may not be. Obviously the coaches are smarter and know more about what's happening than us, so I always defer to them

I would have ran more left instead of right. Seems like most of our runs, which failed, went right. We had success left some against UF and OM. I don't blame Kiffin for the struggles. Line play and QB play were way off.

I never had a problem with the play calling. When your OL plays like that there's nothing you can really do. Not impressed with Cristobal so far outside of his recruiting what we presume to be a really good group of offensive linemen waiting their turn.

Saban said Arkansas was taking the quick throw away from Sims. They wanted him to beat them deep.

This. If you get the chance you really should read this. This guy breaks down our offensive woes perfectly. LINK

This thread was kind of based off of his post.

He called a winning game - so I wouldn't change it.

I still love the Kiffin hire, no other OC under Saban has had less to work with as far as oline and QB.
