This pisses me off if it's true, which I would say it is when you consider the source.

I have no idea how good Kendrick would be against a quality opponent, but he is worlds better than Thomas in practice.

The consensus among the players is that Kendrick should be playing. I would not be surprised at all if the player staff (led by AJ, Maggitt, Lane) went to Jones this week to try and convince him to make a change. Mahoney seems much more open to a change than CBJ though.

Kendrick did not play great against Arky State, but Thomas had been horrendous in practice up to that point. No way he is better than Kendrick right now. Thomas is abused by Vereen day in and day out at practice.

Incredibly frustrating when we don't know of butch' s reasoning

Plus I can't think of a single possible legit reason for it

My thoughts exactly. The OLine and staff to a certain extent took a beating on Swains show this morning. It was coming more from Seth than Swain, but every thing he said rang true.

Said Thomas and Kerbyson look un-athletic and slow to be playing tackle. Crowder looks weak and shouldn't be anywhere close to starting for an SEC OL. Marcus Jackson was the only one who caught any praise from either one of them, but he has plenty of work to do.

From what I got, if something doesn't change soon, this is going to be the worst OL to every pass through UT by the time it's all said and done. Scary thought

I'm just not sure I buy this. CBJ has shown no starting job is sacred and he wants to win even more than we do - his livelihood's on the line. Assuming for a moment that Kendrick is better (and I'm not convinced given his play at Arky St.) there has to be some reason we don't know about. For example, Kendrick may have an injury or even conditioning issues that severely limit him. He may have other things as well.

The fact that Kendrick got first crack at it after Gillam went down says there's no conspiracy against him.

I would not buy it either coming from anyone else but this guy has been 100% on anything football related for Butch's entire tenure.

Guy has never said Kendrick is great, but he is adamant that he is much better than Thomas in practice.

I can certainly see a coach wanting to start his own guys.

This would make sense.

No matter how much coach-speak goes on about open competition, these coaches still have their favorites.

I think the mounting pressure from Thomas getting butt fricked every other play will cause this change to happen. I bet after OM goes in dry this weekend, it happens.

Mahoney on the OL:

-----
MAHONEY: (on OL) I have told them that Saturday was unacceptable. We need to play well as a group. There are things we need to clean up.
MAHONEY: I don't think our group's confidence level is high right now. I tell them to block it all out. But they have to play better.
MAHONEY: Ole Miss is as big a challenge as we will have.
-----

TBH, I don't give a damn how badly they've played this year. Getting their confidence up is an absolute must is a MUST. Doesn't matter who is starting. For this unit, as green as they are, confidence truly is 90 percent of the battle, particularly for the true freshmen but really for all of them.

The low confidence level might explain why Marcus Jackson has played so badly all year for no damned reason - he has the talent. Hell he's the only one on that line playing in-position and experience with talent befitting an SEC olineman.

LT Kyler Kerbyson can at least lean on the fact that he's out of position and not athletic enough for LT but he still hasn't progressed and by this point he should've.

Center Mack Crowder just isn't very talented but Weisman can't stay healthy. Again, at this point he should've gotten better. Admittedly, he's undersized and not very strong for a center but again a lack of confidence kills.

The true freshmen are more understandable. They're lost and haven't had time to develop their bodies, study film, or go through years of practice but what excuse do the others have? Out of position, undersized, lacking a lot of PT or whatever there's just no excuse for the mental issues they're having. They need to stop trying to be the last oline and start playing with confidence - working with what they have instead of whiffing (not blocking but completely whiffing).

Maybe Mahoney's anger will light a fire but I won't hold my breath. These guys need to reach deep and find some swag - they don't have to be great or even good just decent.
