A person familiar with the investigation of the possible violations by Georgia running back Todd Gurley told the AJC on Friday that it’s a “significant” case of the sale of memorabilia and there is a possibility that Gurley may not be cleared to return to the field this season.

Unlike the case involving Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M, the source says, there is evidence that wasn’t available in the Manziel case. Manziel got a half-game punishment last season to start the year.

we've known that from the start, this isn't news.

Hell dez bryant missed a full year over a lunch just for lying to the NCAA. If gurley lied, he'd miss the season. We've always known that.

It's okay. It's all fabricated because the AJC hates UGA and they were just waiting for this.

He was gone after this season either way. At this point, don't really care if he is done for the year. He will be a great pro and it was fun while it lasted.

YA don't say!?!?

The point of this is the source says the evidence exists that he was paid, unlike in the Manziel case

Georgia should lose their SEC membership for fricking this up. This should of been very easy to cover up.

UGA can't do it right.

He really has no incentive to come back. He's a first round pick regardless of how this shakes out.

Wow. The trinkets he received are going to cost him the Heisman. You can't put a price on that.

Not going out like this is big incentive to come back.

duh, but you said you wouldn't care if he came back or not. I would prefer to have him back otherwise we might not win another game aside from CS.

I was never mad. Gurley did this to himself. He deserves whatever punishment is coming. Everyone is pointing the blame at the program but every athlete knows the consequences of taking cash. That being said, he was going to the NFL after this season so he really only hurt the program not himself.

Why? It's not like UGA has a chance to compete for a natty this year. He is going to get paid regardless, why risk a significant injury to finish fourth in the SEC?

Then maybe the program will try a little harder in recruiting and other areas if our season is banked on one player.

Like, actually recruiting DB's and QB's that are worth a shite.

What incentive does he have to come back?

He has already lost the Heisman. He will be the first back taken. He will go in the first round. RB's don't go in the first round much anymore. By coming back, all he will be doing is risking getting injured, which could cost him millions of dollars.

I wouldn't put too much stock in that as of yet. Think about how many sources and people close to the investigation were anonymously quoted during the Cam saga.

I remember Mark Wynne (an Auburn alum) running all over metro Atlanta reporting for WSB on various "sources" and people "close to the investigation" or people "close to the Newton family".

He likes UGA so he probably does have incentive.

That said, someone smart will probably tell him that when he comes back, especially if UGA is out of the race, he shouldn't be 1/3 of the offense. Which is true.
