This has to be the most epic melt I have ever witnessed on any sports board. Quite honestly, it isn't any wonder why our fanbase is the most ridiculed.

Let's visit a few things for perspective.

The Gurley leaving rumor. That's just it, a rumor. That would be utterly ridiculous to think that he would. Now if he was thinking that he should because he feels that he was "wronged" when in fact he was the one who did something wrong, then that just goes to show the mentality of the "its all me and I do no wrong" attitude so prelevant in society.

Which leads us to the second, but probably should be the first, most ridiculous thing that has appeared on the board since the beginning of what should be known as the "Gurley Melt," and that is the comments about how the admin should be fired and the house cleaned. The folks calling for Richts head aren't thinking clearly or even at all. If anything, no blame can be placed on Richt - although some on here wish it could. If there is any, then that starts at Richt's boss. Period.

Think about things for a minute, seriously. If the "house was cleaned" as some want, then this place would become a dumpster fire of epic proportions, to say the least. Everyone seems to forget things like that. Tennessee's problems would pale in comparison. We would be the TN for more than a decade. Count on it.

What remains to be seen is does Gurley man up and accept responsibility or cower behind the victim mentality that some are so quick to throw out. If the latter is the case, then I can imagine that statements are coming that would negatively affect recruiting, however false they may be. But, if he comes back and plays, then those stupid rumors are JUST THAT.

Now, everyone, sit down and take a breath and think logically.

While I agree that we should let the dust settle, if it turns out that the UGA AD used the UGA lawyer to throw one of our players under the bus, my opinion will not change.

Agree. Just keep loving UGA. We will get through. Mizzouri beat USC by 1 point. Other than that, nothing. I think we will win the next two games and then Gurley is back.

Do you really expect Richt to tell Gurley to lie and hide facts. It is now what UGA is about. We brag all the time about doing things the right way, until it really stings, then everyone wants to fire people for that very thing.

I still see us in the SECCG until proven otherwise on the field.

Go Dawgs!!

so they should have cevered it up and then what?...what if we did win out and win the SEC...would you then be ok for it to be revoked and the school be put on probation and for Gurley to have his Heisman taken away?...we keep mentioning scam newton and JFF...but think about USC and Reggie Bush...is that what you would rather happen?

The thing about that, Crow, is that any school is like a corporation. And we all know that corporations - and schools - look out for their interest first. Gurley taking money shines a bad light on the system - and that can't be argued.

It's all a cathartic release, man. Rather us all just puke all over a message board than go teabag a fan at krystals, poison some trees, or do something else the other SEC fan bases have been known to do.

It didn't seem to hurt Texas A&M when they fought it.

IMO, treating your players like crime suspects shines a far worse light.

If the rumor is allowed to persist, or proven to be true, it could have very, very harsh consequences for UGA on the recruiting trail. Every single school we recruit against will needle that with players and their families.

Exactly, precedent has already been set here. That's why I was, and still am, furious. If it comes out that we had an opportunity to defend our player and didn't, I'm done with Richt and the administration. And DGD can attest, I've been a pretty strong Richt supporter.

Even if the person DID wrong? You can't treat them like they are angels and did nothing wrong, when, in fact they did.

I am williing to bet this is being watched by recruits and seen how it is handled. It would be different if Gurley did nothing wrong and they threw him under the bus anyway, but he did. And that can't be argued. Just think, how many parents trust Richt and believe in his teachings? Now, what would those parents think if Richt told Gurley to lie?

I have to believe some of those commenters aren't UGA fans at all. Anyone who has followed UGA sports for the last 15 years knows that the administration has made it clear that they are not going to condone or cover up for athletes that break the rules. Any poster acting angry because UGA won't operate like Auburn is either a troll or an idiot.

It was illegal in most southern states to get a blowjob until the 80's, some as late as the 2000's, thanks to Sodomy Laws. Everyone still got a blowjob. If you were a teenager in the 80's, you broke the law. Your parents broke the law.

Some laws are fricking dumb and need to be broken.

Yes. From a recruiting perspective, parents want to know that a school has their child's back, even if they make a mistake.

Other schools are going to kill us on this.

ETA: it's not about telling him to lie. It sounds like they used a lawyer to manipulate a college kid into implicating himself.

The problem is that without evidence, the NCAA could take a while to dig into it and even when he's declared "innocent" due to lack of evidence, the season is about over.

I'm wondering if they knew the only evidence would be him fessing up to it and sitting the 2 games.

That being said, I do not like the way it makes it look like they're not defending him. The aTm comparisons are off the table now though since it sounds like Gurley admitted to it. Manziel never admitted to getting paid and sat half a game for saying he knew the autographs would end up being sold even though he "wasn't paid for them."
