That is pretty freaking impressive right there. Both lines destroyed their counterparts for LSU.
You have to have both excellent talent evaluation as well as excellent player development. In other words, you have to have great coaching.

This staff's ability to spot talent really is impressive. If I'm another coach and Mullen offers a kid, I'm following suit.

He was only a 3 star.
There is WAY too much early analysis on these players. The top 4 and 5 stars are identified by their FR and SO years of High School. Dak blew up his SR year and the rankings were already set.
it is a real failure of the entire way that we evaluate talent through the recruiting services. Lots of guys do not fully develop until their SR year or even later.

Mullen does a great job of finding guys with raw talent that need to be developed. Stars don't mean shite without good coaching.
What's ironic is we have had some 4 and 5 star recruits...and few of them end up starting for us and the only one I can think of that's a big playmaker on this team is Chris Jones

That's true, these recruiting services are grading ALOT of prospects. I'm sure they dont have a massive staff, and thats alot of kids to keep track of.
The higher end guys, like high end 4 stars/5 stars. I think they tend to get right more often than not, because they have had alot of exposure for a pretty long time.
But there is alot that don't get that kind of attention, they might go to a small school, develop late, or maybe they didnt start football until JR/SR year. It could be anything.

Sometimes I think star assignment is based in part on playing up to the biggest fan bases that buy the service.
