Why has LSU had so much trouble finding a quarterback under Les Miles?

Les Miles arrived at LSU in 2005 and inherited Jamarcus Russell and Matt Flynn as quarterbacks (originally recruited and signed by Nick Saban). Jamarcus Russell was a great SEC quarterback, and Matt Flynn ended up being a pretty good starter.

Since then, however, why does it seem like LSU can't have a good quarterback under Les Miles? Below I have started a list of quarterbacks that have played for LSU in recent years.

Jordan Jefferson (terrible)
Jarrett Lee (terrible)
Andrew Hatch (terrible, transferred out)
Stephen Rivers (terrible, transferred out)
Ryan Perrilloux (kicked off the team)
Zach Mettenberger (good, drafted into the NFL)
Brandon Harris (to be determined)
Anthony Jennings (to be determined, yet already benched in favor of freshman)
Hayden Rettig (transferred out)
Jerrard Randall (transferred out)
Zach Lee (chose baseball over football)
Russell Shepard (became overrated wide receiver)

Also, the list of quarterbacks LSU missed on or passed over is pretty astounding...

Jeremy Johnson
Dak Prescott
Teddy Bridgewater
Gunner Kiel
Jameis Winston
________________ (insert more here)

So, I pose the question, why is LSU's development of quarterbacks so terrible? It seems that even when they land talented quarterbacks, they cannot turn them into the players they were predicted to be... The only constant in LSU during all of the quarterbacks listed is Les Miles.

You got a job, brah?

That a lot of work studying up on LSU's QB history on a Monday morning.

Where does LSU send the rent check?

They do seem to have some issues developing QB talent. It's been a while since anyone's looked over to the LSU sideline and been afraid of who's over there.

What if these guys had gone to LSU? Would they have been nearly as successful individually as they were/are? I guess we'll never know, but things would be very different for them.

I don't know about Johnson but LSU would gladly have signed one or several of the other guys. What does this even mean?

Listing the recent LSU quarterbacks when you follow recruiting pretty heavily isn't very tough.

Just bad luck in QB recruiting. The weekend Les went to see Mett was the weekend Bridgewater wanted to come visit and likely commit.

Had Zach Lee on campus practicing until he got offered 5 million from the Dodgers.

fricking Gunner Kiel

Miles does not value a QB like other positions.

Miles doesn't have the chest to run anything other than the I.

If Les didn't move him to WR he wouldn't be collecting a NFL check from the Bucs right now

Was with you until here.

We would've taken Kiel, Winston in a heartbeat.

Missed on Dak because he was a late bloomer and MSU got to him early, hard to fault the staff on that miss.

Jeremy Johnson- has he done anything?

We missed on Teddy. Chose Mett over Teddy, which isn't all that bad.

I think it's pretty pathetic myself, but other than Dak, Louisiana hasn't exactly produced many good QBs over those years that Les has failed to identify and recruit.

Now why LSU has only signed one QB from texas in that time that ended up campus when it seems like half the FCS quarterbacks come from the state and they recruit the state heavily for other positions is a mystery.

Can you imagine what it has to be like trying to have a conversation with Miles?
