of all time.

Is there any doubt he's the 2nd GOAT? There will never be another herschel, but there could be cases made for #2 between gurley, knowshon, sinkwich (not a true RB though..), and Hearst. But by the time this season is over, I really don't think anyone else can make a case. Todd has over 700 yards already in 5 games (1 of which he played 1 quarter) this season, and will move into 2nd all time next week. That's including a full 2012, half 2014, and essentially half of 2013. He also has a chance to make a serious dent in the "most yards in a season" category if his current stats hold up.

Enjoy every carry we get from now on fellas, because we're truly watching one of the best in school history.

Agreeance. Gurley = second best RB of all time at UGA.

We need to enjoy the heck out of it, because his kind comes around extremely, extremely, rarely.

Good times.

Great post. He truly is special and someone to relish while he is here. I am thankful I was at the game Saturday so one day when they show the highlight of his pass I can say I was there. Think we miss Murray? We will really miss Gurley even with the studs coming behind him.

My Dad saw Herschel play live in every home game and many away games throughout his career. he stands by the assertion that Todd is as good if not a better athlete/back than Herschel. Difference is the level of competition (greater now than it was back then) and playcalling (we try to be balanced whereas Herschel - and RBs like him - amassed stupid numbers because they represented the whole offensive playbook).

I loved watching Knowshon and considered him one of our best in a long time but I can't even put him in Gurley's league. And that's definitely no disrespect to Knowshon.

And I agree there will never be another Herschel. But I do have to take into account the level of play that Gurley is up against as far as the speed and strength of the defenders he is up against. That being said, Herschel doing what he did with Belue at QB made it even more insane. Maybe that's why we are sticking with the passing game we are, so everyone can really appreciate what Gurley is doing

That's already making me sad when I watch because I don't expect to see a player like him between the hedges for a long long time. Again, no disrespect to any other players but he just has it all and is able to will his way to taking a game over.

It's a great argument. I saw Herschel in person in many games. I also just watched the sec storied on him last week. He ran over people even when they knew he was getting the ball 30 plus times a game. Gurley has more offense around him but is also playing against better competition. I say they are both the best for their time.

Yea that's the big thing that stands out to me as well

And just the fact that people are legitimately discussing it as being even in the realm of possibility tells you what type of player Gurley is.

I think the case can be made that Gurley is well on the way to being a legend after this season. Gurley played his first two seasons with one of the biggest stat-monsters to play in the SEC at QB. Herschel played all 3 season with fairly mediocre QB play and he was heavily relied upon all 3 seasons.

If Gurley wins the Heisman, I think that it's very difficult to rank one ahead or behind of the other, if you ask me.
