Dating back to the LSU game in 11.

5-16 on FG attempts in the past 5 losses.

Pathetic. Truly cost us a few of those games.

Its absurd. I told a friend. Every time we miss field goals, we lose. It's a momentum killer and makes you scared to attempt another kick. Just bad juju. I fricking hate it. We MUST get a fricking kicker.

I'd easily say the missed FGs cost us straight up the LSU loss in '11, and the Auburn loss last year and maybe yesterday.
Not sure about aTm and OK.

The 11 misses:
OM- 46 and 51 yards
OU- 32
AU- 44, 33, 44, 57
A&M- None
LSU- 44, 50, 49, 52

Made:
OM- 44
OU- 27
AU- None
A&M- 28
LSU- 34, 46

In close games we should not even think about attempting 40+ yard kicks.

That's the thing, long FG's are difficult even for good kickers. We have had mediocre kickers or flat out terrible ones.

If it's under 4th and 10, we're far better off going for it.

They're gonna have to get more aggressive and stop settling for long FGs. The 40+ yard misses are really starting to mount up.

Besides the 44 (which is difficult) those others were pretty damn hard.

Would have rather just punted the damn ball and pinned them deep and hope for a 3 and out and get really good field position the next possession.

Just like others have said, we need to quit these damn long FG attempts. Saban has become so stubborn in this regard. You could really see the game turn after we missed that 51 yarder.

I really don't blame Griffith because I blame the man who keeps trotting him out there.

There's a helluva lot of stupidity in this thread.

What the hell else are you going to do on 4th and 20 from the 34? fricking punt from the 34? Go for it? A FG is the best odds.

Hell yes, Saban kept trotting him out there...and he made a 44 yarder the next time. So that alone makes any comparison with inclusion with Foster downright imbecilic.

The guy was 4 for 4 against WVA, with three from beyond 40...one from 47...with the game riding on every kick. Every. fricking. One.

He's 4 for 6 from 40-49.

Jesus, was the Florida game the first game that some of you guys actually watched this year?

And why the frick would we do that when he's 67% from 40-49?
And why would anything Cade Foster did factor at all into the decision?

Bama fans are supposed to actually have more brain cells than a turnip.

For college kickers, I expect them to make anything under 40 yards. Anything over that and the possibility of missing is pretty realistic. Out of all of those, the only miss that I think should have been made and directly resulted in a loss was the 33 yarder against Auburn last year. All of the other ones were tough and were honestly gambling a bit by going for the kick especially when you consider how obvious it was that our kickers were off on those nights.

ETA: With that being said, the only one of those that I actually disagree with the decision was the 57 yarder against Auburn. At the very least, I disagree with the decision to not put anyone who could cover a return well out there although there is admittedly a lot of hindsight there. Personally, I would have tried for a pass to the end zone, but it is over.

Should let our punter kick FGs. Dude has a leg.
I was always impressed my Griffith in practice and high school footage, but he just hasnt panned out on long FGs (yet)

Hasn't that been the story since Saban got here?

Our kickers get no kind of coaching from the staff...and it shows. Maybe one day we will take coaching that position seriously because we seem to put too much faith in it come gametime.

Meh, I'm not that worried about it. Leigh Kiffin struggled his first couple of seasons(remember the game at Arkansas) and he was pretty automatic by the end of his career. Griffith has the leg and will get better. The ball almost always looks good coming off his foot, save for that dreadful attempt Saturday. THat first missed FG he crushed though and had the distance to be good from 55, he just didn't get the hook he was looking for.

JK Scott also had field goal kicking duties in high school. Perhaps we should try him on a few kickoffs?
