Why did Kiffin quit pounding the rock in the 4th?

I'm sure that this has been talked about, but Yeldon was getting 5+ on first down all 3rd quarter. Why did he start opening it up in the 4th and setting Sims up for 3rd and long which played into our hands?

It was working well, but penalties on first down put us in bad situations quite a few times.

I could ask the same of another coach...

Could be that losing our starting center had something to do with it as well.

Meh. We were running it well in between CRob and Arie, so while losing him may have hurt, I don't think it primarily affected the running game.

That's the million dollar question, the only thing ole miss didnt have an answer for was Yeldon running left, and we abandoned it the 4th quarter. Stupid.

It was a pretty poorly coached game all around, in my distant observer opinion... Why did Freeze put Liggins in when Bro Wallace was throwing back shoulder lasers to Treadwell all afternoon?

The center was a big loss, we lost him in the auburn game last year and couldn't get a good push after. Fwiw our new backup is a different player than the one last year.

Noting that Moo St. lost their starting center due to being suspended for dirty play against LSU. Point being, injuries are part of college football & I'd think that bama, of all teams, would be deep enough, especially on the OL, to not lose a step?

Bama ran left all 2nd qtr, and drove it 68 yds in 8 to 10 plays for your only offensive touchdown. You began the 3rd qtr with the same mindset, with dwindling success. The last 10 times you ran the ball left you totaled 27 yds. In other words, our defense shut that shite down and then commenced to kicking their arse.

Mississippi State knew they would be without their center for nearly two weeks so their back up was able to practice with the rest of their starters. OLine is one of the hardest places to simply plug in a new guy, especially in game at a hostile road environment.

It wasn't penalties when we had 2nd and 4 from the 44 or first and ten frim the 26.
It was dumb play calling.
If we keep pounding the ball we win.
Also Saban should never gave Jones returning kicks late in a right game ball protection is not his thing.

Funny how this seems to be the recurring theme almost every time Bama loses.
Saban may be the world's greatest recruiter, but he is definitely a mediocre game coach.
