Where do people stay when they go to a game. I have been to Texas A&M and only heard about State.
For Aggies I guess Houston. Lets say I was going to spend Thanksgiving in College Station where do I stay lol.
In regards to my visit stadium was nice-tailgating scene was decent (down year). Upper endzone deck smelled of bat shite.

There is a nice Hilton where coaches tend to stay when they first come to town. I knew a girl who was a bartender there, and she got real tight with a lot of them.

It's best to stay in town if possible but you can stay in downtown Houston and take a shuttle bus to campus. Drops you off several hours before the game to tailgate or bar hop and picks up like an hour after
If you don't mind messing around with driving and parking you can stay in The Woodlands or Cypress and it's a pretty easy drive

You plan ahead. Just like any college football road game you plan on attending. I'm talking like July. Make hotel reservations and order your tickets right when they are available.

There are more hotels here now. Seems like they build a new one every couple of months lately. You still gotta plan early though they get booked fast.

Yeah this ain't the same set of little towns it was when I was a kid. I don't know if that is a good or a bad thing.

Sounds like she might have gotten loose from some of them

If you want to stay in College Station, but can't find a room right now, you can check back periodically, as cancellation deadlines approach, and probably find a room. Problem is, most hotels (besides Hotel 6, from what I hear) require a 2 night minimum, and charge outrageous rates for game weekends. If you don't want to do that, you might be able to find a rental property, but short of that, you can stay in Houston or somewhere within a reasonable drive. Visiting teams usually stay at a resort on Lake Conroe.
Wish I could help you more, but I come from the other direction, so that's where I have a good feel of the options.

There are 40 hotels in Bryan College Station. If there are 200 rooms a hotel then we're talking 8000 rooms very conservatively, probably more. You average 3 a room, again conservative and there is 24,000 people.
Most however come from Houston or Dallas. 1.5-3 bour drives.

Lasalle hotel in Downtown Bryan, 10 minutes from campus. There's some really good restaurants and wine bars on the strip within walking distance.

There are probably fifty hotels in the College Station area now, including most major chains (e.g. Holiday Inn) and their subsidiaries (e.g. Holliday Inn Express).
The problem is that there are not enough rooms for 100,000 people. Everything will be booked by now.
Sometimes you can find a room in one of the surrounding towns. Navasota, Madisonville, Hearne and Caldwell are closest. They each have several hotels, but there is currently a big oil play in the area. Most hotels are full, even when there is not a game. Maybe Brenham.
Sometimes people forget about Somerville. It has two new hotels and a straight shot to Kyle from the West. Given gameday traffic, that is a potential plus.
Given your late start, I recommend Houston and the bus.

The LaSalle is probably the coolest hotel in town, but it has probably been booked for a year.

There are a few decent places to stay in Huntsville about an hour to the east.

It is possible that the resorts on Lake Conroe may have some availability.
