Makes me want a fast rb even more. These guys hit the hole wide open, and are so dangerous in space. I like CAP, but he just seems like a grinder / short yardage back. It seems like most of our running plays start with dancing behind the line and then ducking through a whole.
I know you need a back with good size in this league who can take hits, but damn these guys with break away speed make your offense so much more explosive

Agreed. We don't need just small backs, but that type of quickness in the running game is sorely lacking this year. Even when we had Ben Tate, he was great at seeing a hold, and bursting through.

There's a common theme here and it's the offensive line. Guess an SEC West school that lately has been running small backs.. The only one you can name is Ole Miss with Jeff Scott. There's a reason small scat backs don't show up often in our league as the primary ball carrier

Demps and Rainey could've been considered scat during their time but Meyer also had a power run game that included Tebow on blasts and powers behind the Pouncey brothers

Refs in this game are protecting Oregon like SEC refs protect Bama. It's sad really.

I think he meant quick and good agility scat back. OMac and Grant are definitely straightline speed

Y'all remember LaMichael James against us in the Natty? He had 49 yards. You don't run scat backs between the tackles in the SEC unless you want to get the guy killed. If he's small then he has to be strong and durable.

Yeah I'm not talking Omacc. I'm talking Melvin Gordan / Ameer Abdullah. A fast back that can take the punishment.

quote:Problem is it's very hard to find or know those kind of guys out of high school because most times they torch teams with their athletic ability and don't have to use their durability or toughness. And if you see guys that show that in HS it is very hard seeing the smaller backs doing that in the SEC.

I like the hybrid type of running backs. Tre Mason was a hybrid in my opinion, fast and could get it done between the tackles. Barber and Rock fit this mold.

PM said Roc has been banged up so coaches are being careful with him.
He made it sound like we would of been seeing more Roc already if he wasn't gimpy.

I dont know if it was just because I was used to seeing CAP out there, but Roc looked kind of fragile to me.
