Now is the time, and Mason knows it. Georgia's passing game has been struggling, and as a result Mason has a new mantra this week:
Let it rip. Trust his receivers. Have fun. And again, let it rip.
quote:
"There's just gonna be a new mindset I take this week where I'm just gonna let it fly to the best of my ability, and obviously still try to make good decisions," Mason said. "But I think some of my problem in the past has been that I put too much pressure on myself as far as trying to get everything right. And I think that's kinda made me slow down in my ability to play, mentally."

Interesting, thanks for the post.

The new "Devil-may-care" passing philosophy is not coincidental with the return of our two best receivers.

Let Todd Gurley rip. He can keep dinking and dunking and not throwing picks preferably.

I'd like to see more QB draws called.

When HM's telling the reporter he's just gonna "rip it"- he sounds like he's regurgitating something the coaches said.
Kid looks beat down. No confidence.

It's like when an AD gives an embattled coach the dreaded "vote of confidence." I vote WildDawg packages for the rest of the season.

Sounds like a positive move, but we'll see how it translates on the field. If he's not able to make accurate middle-to-deep throws, I don't really want him to "let it rip". If he can make the throws but it's just about trusting the receivers, then I'm cool with it.
Hopefully he shows improvement, because I'd love for him to turn into a passing threat to open up the run game more. While I'm fine with the other two QBs getting a shot, I'd be happier if Mason (with his knowledge of the playbook) can just stay consistent with his decision-making while making some good throws to keep secondaries honest.
I'd rather Mason stay as the QB until he shows that he's not up to the task. The TN game certainly left a bad taste in my mouth, but hopefully he'll come out and surprise me this week. I want him to succeed.

I truly believe that having JSW and MM back on the field will open the door for Conley and Bennett to have more success with the intermediate throws Hudson CAN make. The home run threats are (hopefully) back, so that will help regardless of whether he goes down field or not.

It's like my late grandmother always said, "more room out than in...."

Agreed... Mason isn't strong armed or super accurate but MB & CC have drawn the other teams best DB's & have had them draped over their backs all season. Imma guessing that's been a combination of no deep threat & those 2 being more "possession" WR's vs deep threats so they're having problems getting "separation". Hopefully with MM & JSW back to occupy the oppositions best DB's, MB & CC will have a little more room to do what they do best...

I agree but think you overworded it.
Next time, say- "If Michael Bennett and Chis Conley are the 3rd and 4th best receivers on the offense, Hail Satan"

Famous last words after Murray had one of his worst performances ever in the that Florida game with a ton of TO's by both teams. Yea, you let it rip when the receiver is open and not 5 yards away and not when the receiver is in clear and present danger of being racked just as the ball arrives. I do think Mason has gotten in a bad habit of trying to guide the ball instead of throwing the ball with a full motion and good foot work.

This is a bit scary. Aside from his arm, which is clearly weaker than Murray's, I'm not sure that he has that ability to make good decisions very quickly. This would explain why he always knows before the play where he's going to go...and half the time he telegraphs it.
I just don't know if Mason has the tools - arm strength or mental - to be a top tier QB. Now maybe he should be cut some slack since he really only has the game experience of a sophomore...but still... I just haven't seen anything this year that makes this guy stand out as anything above a C grade college quarterback.
